I wouldn't call it a common problem, but it isn't by any means uncommon. Not a big enough problem that I would drive a POS Ram.

It's normal.

Reason why I own a Cummins now

That's because you're on crack :D

It's more of a hit and miss. The majority of us have been fine, a low percentage have experienced this. I'd say it's more of a 70% have no crank issues to 30% who have experienced this.

I doubt it's that high. We're a very small percentage of the duramax ownership. There are many work trucks racking up hundreds of thousands of trouble free miles.

We're like a percent of a percent. Never had a broken crank come through the dealer and we've got a few oil companies here who have hundreds of duramax pickups between them all and I've never seen one.

I would bet the failure rate is well under 1% of all Duramax trucks.

I'm definitely not in love with this 68rfe, but it tows better than any dmax I've had. Never seen over 212* oil Temps towing to Mikes. I'm happy with it but would certainly buy a LML in a heartbeat as well.

I've spent a bunch of time with my Brother-in-law's '12, and it's a beautiful truck but it has its faults. That 68RFE is a huge turn off for me. Just to have a chance to keep it living, you need to tune it. Then once you need to build it, the cost is astronomical and success seems to be arguably "iffy" with a lot of power thrown at it. The front end is a diaster - Carli joints all around seem to have made it night/day, but at a huge cost. The stock turbo on his took a shit at 24k; I put in an S363 - awesome upgrade if you want stock manners. Otherwise, it's skiddish over expansion joints even after upgraded shocks, and the overall truck is a dodge :p LOL. The head gasket is a concern as well. But like anything, it has it's good and bad. For even money I wouldn't even consider the Dodge... but I guess you could guess that since I'm typing this on a Dmax site, LOL.

I do think it looks dead sexy, and the larger back seat leg room is nice for the biddies :)

Could be less. There are definitely many running without issues, as I am one of them. I added that factor in from those running high HP as well. Not many high hp breaks a crank but it happens. If there was 10 high hp dmax, and 3 of them breaks a crank, that's 30%. I could be wrong, maybe 10% of that does have a failure. I'd be interested to have a poll of how many have experienced broken cranks to how many haven't . It'll give us an accurate % to get an idea how low it is.

This is why I waited for the 15s. Different front end setup, and coils all the way around no leaf springs. We will see how long it goes before my front end is more sloppy than my ex. I have no desire to delete mine so if something happens the dealer can fix it. When it hits 99k miles it's gunnar get traded in anyways lol. Sorry for the derail. I'll go fill my Def now haha.

Out of the 1.5 million or so duramax trucks out there a very small percentage have had crank failures. It scared me too at first but as a person that makes a living off of diesels I have to say percentage wise duramax's spend the least amount of time in the shop

Ditto. Always find something to do on a daily basis. The girlfriend is jealous and wants me to spend more time with her and not the truck.

I said listen, when you start making jet engine noises and can throw me into a seatback we'll talk

Literally laughed hard. "Jet engine noises"?!
Be careful what you ask for, she could turn out to cost more than your duramax on a break down.
