Sorry if this is the wrong section, but I know that 06 was a split lly/lbz year. What I was wondering is what, if anything, differentiates the 04.5 - 05 lly from the early 06 lly. Besides the obvious 6 spd behind it. Thanks in advance

True LLYs ended with model year 2005. The "2006 LLY" is simply a LBZ (100%) with a smaller tune in the ECM. All hard parts are LBZ.

I thought in 06 gm still had a decent amount of lly heads left over so they used the older head on the newer block and thats where the 06 lly came from...

My opinion is that GM when it was in production on the new trucks, they had not received the emission certification for the LBZ, --so they used the LLY certification until the LBZ was certified.

As everyone says-- the 06 LLY is exactly the same as the LBZ, but has the LLY tune.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh :banghead:

No it does not "have the LLY tune."

The LLY and LBZ use completely different ECMs.

It is 100% LBZ parts. It is also a "LBZ tune" in the ECM. Just with less fuel than the released "LBZ" do.

The only thing you need to do to turn your "06 LLY" into a "06 LBZ" is flash a stock LBZ tune into it.

Of course it has the LLY tune. It's just different than the other LLY tune. If it is an LLY, then it stands to reason that the stock tune is "the LLY tune". :poke: :D

Yes, I own an 06 LLY. ;)

Then the issue is that there are 2 LLYs.

I would love to meet the guy who decided it should be an "06 LLY" and not an LLZ or something.
I would love to meet him and punch him in the face because of threads like this :D :roflmao:

You know what I hate more than lbz's being confused with them POS lly's.... When I confuse lly's with lbz's!!! The 06'+ tow mirrors are for lbz+ only!!!!!!

its just an RPO code for the motor steve. come on man, you should know this! :D the actual "LLY" and "LBZ" really have no meaning to the motor other than a way to track orders. We all just assigned the RPO codes as their name. LBZ is also an acronym for "Le Blowzzzz"

We can each kick him in one testicle. I agree it is dumb, and I also agree for all practical purposes, the 06 LLY is an LBZ.

I've also heard this, the emissions trials were not complete in time so they tuned the LBZ as close to the old LLY as they could and called it an LLY.
