The deck could have definitely caused a communication issue... Try the little I told you about but also pull whatever fuse you need to to make sure that deck is off

Be sure to let us know what happens with the different things that have been suggested. The way it sounds to me is that the ECM will need a stock tune flashed in most likely from a tech II. The LBZ is one of the most solid platforms when it comes to flashing. If it quit midway through a flash, it will most likely need more than a few fuses pulled.

If you can work on the truck during 8-6MST, we can get on team viewer and watch the process with you.

If all else fails we can load tunes on a different ecm and send it out to you. If we can recover your ecm, shipping would be your only charge. One way or another we will get you running.

Yeah I'll definitely try everything. Haven't received th stock tune file back yet so may not get to try that method tonight. Might take work off on Tuesday or Wednesday if I can't get this thing going

Just something I noticed in your first post, 12.2 volts is a low battery. 12.7-12.8 would be a fully charged set of batteries. I'm not sure if 12.2v is low enough to cause your initial problem but I figured I'd point it out just in case.

doubtful... LB7's tend to be more problematic in relation to voltage.

There is a trick I have used on LLY's that I stumbled across... Do the following

Key in the run position
Open hood
Remove cover to the fuse box located by the engine
Using the diagram on the picture on the underside of the fuse box locate the ECM or PCM fuse
Remove the fuse wait a second then reinstall the fuse
Remember make sure you keep the key in the run position
Now turn the key off
Turn the key to the run position again
Attempt to reflash the ECM again
It may work as it has saved my ass on 4 occasions during a failed full flash


Okay so just tried this method... No luck... And pulled the radio, radio amp, info, and abs fuses... Also no luck. Still an immediate error

PROVIDED THAT WORKS , what should I do differently when I try and flash Efi live again? Remove the 4 fuses, hook a battery charger up, make sure all connections are good etc. I don't wanna go through this shit again.... Also, will I need to repeat the read 1 step again to read a new stock tune? Or go straight to the full flash Efi tune?

The full flash will work. The tune and licensing is locked to your vin number and that wont change so your good once its reflashed stock. I would pull the fuses and that aftermarket deck, hook up a battery chrarger then flash in the dsp5 file...

I swear I'm cursed.

ATP emailed me the stock file back, tried that and instant error again. All the necessary fuses were out and battery charger was hooked up. So that plan didn't work

My buddies showed up with the MDI and the MDI wouldn't connect to the lap top. Bad cable or something. So he has to look into that tomorrow and try again tomorrow.

Never did I think this would turn into such a cluster.

Not using a tech 2. Thought he was bringing one but he's just using the MDI and his laptop to access GM Global or whatever we used to call it at the dealer. Guess it's how they flash everything now.

Mdi is much simpler and faster. You just connect to the Internet and it downloads what you select into the truck. Tech 2 has to suck info out, load it on to computer, load on the tech 2 then flash truck.

Once the ECM is restored to the factory state, pull fuses and make sure the batteries are fully charged. Make sure the fan and headlights are off. At that point you should be able to do the full flash without any issues.

If you continue to have issues, we should have someone here 8-12 on Saturday if you can't call in during the week.

I THINK with most ECMs, including the E35, once you get past a certain point in a flash, it's recoverable. If you're interested, I have a tech2, candi module and an older install of TIS2000 (has data up to 2007) - I can attempt to recover your ecm if you want.

Also, with regards to pulling fuses, the reason for doing so was for the 05 and older trucks that programmed over the class2 data bus that was shared with pretty much everything else in the truck. Sometimes other modules on the bus wouldn't play nice with the 'silence' command and caused problems with programming, hence the need to pull certain fuses. With the LBZ, the *only* things on the GMLAN bus are the ecm, tcm and gpcm. Pulling fuses will (should) make zero difference when flashing a LBZ truck (unless we're talking about a high draw device).

MDI was working and uploading and then the ECM wouldn't communicate back

I've only seen a couple LBZ ecms that are not recoverable in the 8 years of doing this. We can send you a tuned one and you can send us yours that is not communicating and let me see if I can recover it. If I can recover, then there will be no out of pocket cost if the autocal didn't burn a license.

The Bosch ecm's are very robust, battery voltage is important though. Things do happen like the cable getting bumped and disconnected/key turned off/etc. Tuning with the autocal is basically bomb proof on Bosch but things happen, hard to say what, not being there but most likely is recoverable.
