06 LBZ getting hot while towing

On my way home from glamis today towing my 31' toy hauler coming up a minor hill the truck got as high as 226 degrees. Is this normal? Outside temp was 91 degrees and I was only going 60mph. I did not hear the fan engage/turn on until I slowed down to about 50mph.

@ what temp should the fan clutch engage?
@ what temp should I be worried?

Maybe call EFI guy you used and log the truck temps and make sure they are set right also wires all plugged in? Water pump check/flow/rattle? Then how heavy was this trailer with the lift and big ass tires that motor is going to sweat out not to knock your rig but consider what slows it down and eats fuel-We all have to after we do those changes and then see the other side.

What told you 226*? The edge chip on my truck showed id hit 223* before my fan would kick on in 110* weather but the gauge would just start to move off 210, not really noticable. That was a few years back.

226° is not overheating. The engine will protect itself from true overheating (250?) unless you disable the protection with EFILive. For a tow rig, I wouldn't edit the protection.

The fan clutch is very slow to react.

With tall tires, I'd run in 4th gear when towing at 60 mph. It won't hurt your mileage much, but the engine will run cooler and happier.

What rpm are you running?

Mine always ran hotter/higher egt when the motor was lugged down under 2000 rpm's(35" swampers and 35ft warrior)

I slowed down to about 50 mph and it cooled down. But I didn't hear the fan on @ all until I stopped for a drink and then started moving again.

It was a lot louder so I knew the fan had finally turned on, once the fan kicked on it cooled down alot!

I am similar to that also. I ran it in M and had it on 5 to prevent the engine from lugging down. As soon as these 37's are wasted I'm going to a 35" tire.
