I recently bought my first diesel, an 05 2500 hd duramax with a 6 inch lift and 35's and a AFE intake. When I bought it it had a sticky egr valve and a tear in the inter cooler boot. I pull a 10 ft cargo trailer every day for work. The first couple of tanks of fuel I was getting about 12 mpg pulling the trailer. Since then I repaired the inter cooler boot, installed an egr blocker plate, got a 4 inch exhaust, and installed efi live. Since then my mpg is 12.6 on setting 1 "optimized stock" and actually dropped to 11.9 on setting 3 which is the "llight tow" setting. The diesel shop said that my injectors are with in tolerance and I have no boost leaks. I am really ddisssapointed with the mileage especially after spending the money on mods with not much increase in milage. Does anyone have any ideas?

Mileage sounds right for a lifted truck pulling a brick.

Sounds more than right, sounds pretty dang good. Lifted trucks with big tires are NOT going to get the same milage as a stock height truck on street tires. If you want to use it to pull a work trailer and get good milage, drop it back down and put street tires on it. You'll get better milage, and the suspension will last ALOT longer. If you want to stay lifted, put some 4.56 gears in it to offset for the 35's. But it still won't be as good as stock height with stock sized street tires.

Thanks for the replies. I am just looking for the best mileage for this truck which is lifted. I know it won't be the same as a stock height and tire size truck. I did expect a bit better than this but wanted to verify that with what other guys have experienced. Duramax tuner said the light tow setting should increase mileage over stock setting. Has anyone had the same experience as me that it went down?

I get about 12 MPG pulling 10k on 37s with stock gearing, 10-11 mpg pulling 15-20k. You're doing average for lifted trucks. I'd regear it to 4.10 if you do alot of highway towing. 4.56 if you do alot of hills.
