So for almost 10 years I've wanted to build a regular cab short bed duramax, but could never find the right truck for the right price. Well it finally happened this year. Found a completely stock 2005 Silverado 2500hd WT with a utility bed on it and 117k for $7500.

I traded the utility bed for a regular long bed for the time being and threw on some new style 20" Denali wheels that are 8x6.5 instead of the new 8x180 or whatever it is.

Bought the truck and within a week, everything started falling in place. A buddy ended up having a 04 crew cab short bed that he was parting out so I scored a color matching bed, and interior from him for cheap. And I found the only lly short bed fuel tank in Alaska for $140. Then the waiting game started while my buddy finished his shop. Once the shop was done, we wasted no time.

while we were here, I put on McGaughys lowering spring hangers and 4" rear drop shackles and McGaughys drop spindles up front

And this beauty is the final outcome after 15 hours in the shop... :happydance:

Overall came out to about a 4/6 drop, still need to c-notch the frame so I can run bags.

Nice Job:thumb: I am just waiting for a (clean) short bed to pop up local to me at a decent price, and my RCLB will also become a RCSB :)

Man I want to build one for a daily driver.. Then maybe give it to one of my kids for their 16th given they earn it.

Oh and that turned out great!

Wow. That looks great man!

What did you coat the frame in?

I just used 3M undercoating from autozone. Of course my right rear axle seal went right after I finished and coated a lot of shit in gear oil which ate away the undercoating in some spots.

A RCSB duramax for a 16th birthday?! That would be badass! A lot cooler than the '89 Reg cabstep side Cheyenne wt with a bullet hole in the door I had

Thanks! Those deals are hard to find, but make sure you grab it when you find it, I wish I had my own shop, I would have repainted the truck at the same time.
Very nice!
Thanks!

nice work, 15 hrs is impressive.

Did you run into any hickups?

Only thing I ran in to was the mid section of the frame (the part the cab sits on) spread apart after cutting the rear section off so we had to use a 2" ratchet strap to pull it back together when we slid the rear section back in and weld it. And since you cut 5.5" off the very back of the frame, we had to plasma new bumper bolt holes. Other than that, it was easy.

Is this the right up you are referring to? I bookmarked it awhile ago for future ref. :D

Any chance you can get a picture next to a stock dmax truck or maybe a half ton? Trying to see how low it actually ended up.

How about the opposite :roflmao:

OP, if I'm hijacking just let me know and I'll delete it. Just thought it was funny someone asked and I had that picture from mine.

Nah man it's fine! Everywhere I went today I tried to find a stock 1500 or 2500... Damn near impossible in AK I think, no Silverado or Sierra goes untouched here for the most part.
