So at 216k the LLY is spitting coolant. The upper hose is rock hard. The truck runs fine otherwise. Anyone recommend a place in CT. that does these?

Sometimes the cap can cause funky issues too. Although, with the LiLLY you may have blown headgaskets.

Try a new cap, just for kicks.

Thanks for the reply, it has been going on for about a month. I tried the cap. Then the thermostat. I'm pretty much figured it's the head gasket. It's going to sit and I'll be driving my 03 gas hd until I decide what to do with it.

Ahh 10-4. Looks like you’ve exhausted all other routes. You honestly would be money ahead to fix it. Especially if it’s clean; 07 and older trucks, hell even LMM trucks are fetching quite the pretty pennies nowadays. Especially if they’re clean.

Both are way too high to me. If you have some mechanical know how and since you have another truck you could do them yourself. I did my lb7 and it’s not a terrible job.

Just for reference, we are wrapping up a head gasket job on an LLY right now, and the total comes out to a little under $5500. That's a complete upper gasket set, Mahle grade C head gaskets, ARP studs, water pump, coolant, oil, filter, machine shop charges on having heads checked and gone through, sales tax, and labor.

Just got a call from another diesel shop $6900.00 to do the heads. I've called 3 places and got 3 prices now. I probably could do it myself . I've done tons of work in the past on all kinds of engines even rebuilt 6.2 and 6.5 for old vans I had. .
