My name is Brady and I recently bought a 2005 Chevy Duramax. I have poor mechanic skills, especially with diesels, which is why I have registered to this forum. First thing, the oil has just been changed in my truck, but when I turn the truck on it shoes "change engine oil". Second thing, sometimes when I accelerate, especially uphill, there is a faint rattling or knocking noise, sounds to be coming more so from the passenger side. It does not make the sound all the time, just randomly. The gentleman at the car dealer told me that fuel injectors were checked recently and in good condition. Once again, that is coming from a car salesman. I have heard some Duramax owners say it is just the sound the Duramax makes. I am not sure what I need to do. Advice anyone?

turn key on but don't start truck and rapidly "not franticly" press the gas pedal 10 or so times will reset the oil life if i remember right.

if you can't get it to duplicate at idle/in park and be able to look/listen under the hood then it would be best to get more info on when and conditions it makes the noise.
my truck for instance has a rattle/squeek at idle but if i give it just a smidge of throttle it goes away. its was a exhaust hanger.
is it loud enough to record?
Take the truck BACK to the dealer and ask them to diagnose it, or find a diesel shop in your area familiar with Duramax trucks and take it to them, then sent the bill to the dealer.
It is a longshot at best to try to diagnose a random noise thru the internet.

also I've had my engine make noises with certain oil and not with other i believe others have here too..

First off, if your truck has steering wheel controls you can reset your "oil life monitor" that way (just cycle through the DIC with the "info" button, when the oil life is on the screen hold the arrow (<--) button, "oil life reset" will flash).
I'd say whoever did the oil change forgot to reset it.
Now for the noise, who knows. If I had to guess, since you say it does it under acceleration, I'd say you're hearing the main injection after the pilot turns off, or a timing rattle until it gets air, both of which are normal.
