ok i got a 04 f450 which i hate but i use it daily to tow my landscape trailer its constantly breaking down but i need to get it runnin better so i can sell it. heres my problem it keeps barkin the turbo on me after about 2250 rpms maybee 3000 on accel unless im just cruising i had taken the turbo apart and found the unison ring cracked i replaced it cleaned teh housing real well it was pitted up and flakeing i got it cleaned well and everythgin put back togheralso had found the exhaust manifold gaskets were leaking got those all replaced. also replaced teh vgt solonoid. checked the egr valve and looked decent but went ahead and cleaned it off and put it back it ran a lil better but still barkin like crazy so i unplugged the egr valve and it runs a hell of a lot better but still barkin and dosent pour black smoke as bad as it was with the egr plugged it but it only smikes while the turbo is barking this is my main lawn truck and need it fixed asap. i told my buisness partner this is what u get when u buy a ford but its been good to us for years till this plus it also has injector morning sickness runs rough till it warms up

this is all i can think of

Exhaust back pressure sensor, try replacing it or Im pretty sure ford had an update for the ecm that made the ecm ignore the sensor, the 6.0 dosent have a vane pos sensore so it uses exhaust pressure and boost pressure to comand the vane actuator......clear as mud? LOL!

Injector morning sickness is due to lack of oil changes in a 6.0, and/or needs the newest FICM flash. When the ignition is on, can you hear the injector test pretty well or are they quiet?

There is no exhaust back pressure valve in a 6.0, only 7.3's.

The 6.0 does have a vane posison sensor.

They do not have a valve but they do have a sensor, they use the turbo vanes for the valve......

They do not have a vane pos sensor, only a actuator.....

Thanx

Yes definitely have it all reflashed. Also check your FICM voltage with the scanner if you can. Should be in the 45V and higher range with the key on, cranking and running. If you can't doi it with your scanner there is a little cover on the FICM you can pop off and check with a multimeter. If there are 4 screw heads, test from the head nearest the passenger side and ground. Should have 45V+. If it has more then 4 screw heads showing i believe it was the forward one and closest to the pass side but check all to be sure. It won't hurt anything just DO NOT short any to ground with your lead probe. insta FICM toast if you do.
Also delete the EGR and run some Hot Shot or some Rev X. Both are designed to reduce the stiction in these HEUI systems. I'm a Hot Shot dealer and use and sell it quite often.

Or.

You could use better oil and change it more frequent like you should with 7.3's and 6.0's anyways. :thumb:

Well that needs done anyway but once these things start messing up it's usually to late for just a switch in oil brands alone. I use either Motorcraft or Mobil Delvac as instructed by a Navistar engineer and have had great results. I recommend 4K intervals on oil changes as well as Motorcraft oil filters only.

Check the FICM voltage if you're having real bad start ups. My brother runs synthetic oil in his 6.0 PSD because they're ran by the HOP and it is very important to keep oil clean and changed on strict intervals. Try running some REVX oil additive which you can get from merchant, gets rid of that sticky injector in the mornings which is also known as stiction. If you need any other help, give me a holler, my brother is very knowledgeable with the 6.0's!

I am not bia's too just to duramax's. Every truck has their own issues as people know, i personally like the fords, it's simple maintenance is a big thing on the 6.0's which most people don't address and thats why that motor or any ford motor gets their reputation along with other reasons. 99% of the illegal landscapers around here and prolly everywhere all have powerstrokes simply because they're cheaper and more common, and mainly why their are so many issues, you think those beaners know d!ck about diesels and what it takes too run them? Just stating my opinion, Good Luck.

I would try that sensor for sure, i know my brothers barks a little when pulling a trailer but thats only because their is a good amount of boost in his tow tune. It doesn't help that these turbos are small too begin with and a lot of air trying too flow through.
