ok guys....i got a 03 c5500 with a 6.6 duramax...i just bought this truck and now i'm getting sick of it:(...anyway, we bought it and drove it home 600+miles...well after about every 100 miles, we would have to stop and put water in it because the low coolant light would come on and the engine would shut off when we come to a stop...i'm not a complete dummy when it comes to diesels but this one has got me stumped....there is no steam/smoke coming from the tailpipe...i am positive there is no leaks on the engine or etc...it is absolutely not overheating and it is not building any pressure in the overflow tank...no puking/etc. like i've had before in another truck...runs smooth and normal...well when we got home, i shut it off...next day i went out and started it(normal) and drove it about 4 miles and shut it off...next day i went to where i parked it and tried to start it and it turned about one rev. and stopped...i hit the key a couple times and it was locked up sounding....i kept hitting the key and it finally broke loose and started...ok, now i didn't drive it then, just let it run alittle and shut it off...next day i went to start it and it was fine.....i needed to get some welding done on it so the next day i started it and drove it 1/2 mile to the welders shop and shut it off...couple days passed and he called me and said he finally got a spot open to work on it but when he went to start it, it locked up again....now i'm sure its getting water in a cylinder but i don't know how...i know i can take the glowplugs out and see which cylinder it is but what do i do then? you would think if it was a headgasket, it wouldn't have made the 600+mile trip home without overheating or something....i have read that it may be an injector cup cracked or not sealed properly, is this possible? i have no previous history about the engine but i can tell someone has done some work on it(can see fresh silicone/etc. like its been apart at one time) maybe they put injectors in it....it runs excellent with no smoke or blowby and the oil is clear and not overfull...is it possible for me to find the cylinder and have that one injector cup replaced....surely someone on here has some ideas for me...i wish i could just call someone or have them call me to discuss this..870-476-0115..Jim.....thanks in advance for any info

well i went out and pulled the first glow plug out on the drivers side and it was dry...i didn't have the extensions/swivels to get the back three out so i moved over to the passenger side...pulled the front one out and it was dry...second one had some moisture on it and the tip was pretty wet... i left the second one out and tried to turn it over but it was still locked up...left it out and pulled the third and fourth ones out and they were wet also...tried to turn it over and it blew water out like a bomb went off!!! went back and looked and the third hole had water kind of running down it but the other two(second and back) didn't look the same...it wasn't running out, just had some sitting on the whole/threads....i turned it over again for alittle while and the water stopped coming out....i'm sure one whole had alot of water in it....i put all the glowplugs back in and tried to start it...it cranked for alittle while but then started..jumped around alittle and then smoothed out like normal...shut it off and it started right back up...i finally got a number to the guy that owned it before the guy i got it from and he said they already had the headgaskets replaced but didn't really offer any more info(he was really busy)....i hate to tear into this thing and be worse off than i am now...i wonder if some kind of really good stopleak would fix it? they sell some at a local dirt track race shop that they swear by...i know this sounds terrible to try to patch it, but i'm not gonna spend a fortune on a engine with alot of miles...it may be worth it if i had a local(or close) diesel mechanic that has worked on these before..i wouldn't mind spending 1000 or so if i knew it would fix it....

i did take the oil cap off and pulled the dip stick out and there wasn't any pressure/steam coming out of there either...i could of course smell it out the tail pipe alittle...

sorry to hear about your problem , if its getting into one of your cylinders i would have to agree that a cup/headgasket is the cause , kinda weird its not pressurizing the system though . At least you got it narrowed down to one side , it will save you some money down the raod . best of luck to you :(
