For those that don't know the wrist pins are not centered in the pistons but rather have a small offset to eliminate some of the side thrust. This is why many motors have left and right hand pistons. I am assuming the D-Max is this way and thats why there are -->'s;)

also I think its because of the orientation/side of the oil cooling channels on the pistons. If you put a right piston on the left side the oil squirter doesnt squirt into the hole in the piston.

I THINK...

IIRC the wrist pins in the pass side are offset upwards towards the center of the motor and the drivers side are offset downwards towards the fender. They are really the same pistons. The arrows are just there so you dont have to mic them out.

In theory you could use 8 pass or 8 ds pistons in the whole motor as long as you installed the odd four with the arrows forward and the writing upsidedown. I am only talking about wristpin offset tho, I don't know if there would be a prob with the oil squirters using 8 of the same pistons:confused:

If you put them upside down the squirter isn't lined up with the right hole in the piston (the in is larger than the out).

Nice, Like I said, I'm only speaking of the wrist pin orientation. I have never had the inside of a D-Max apart and am only speaking from general engine knowlenge:eek: But I am interested to learn as much as I can about all the "little things" so I'm a little more prepared when mine is in pieces......but then again....thats what I have you for Henry:hug::D

Hey we all learn something everyday, Thats why I asked Guys what is the difference with the left and rights before doing anything else.

I don't see how you could have an oil cooling gallery in a forged piston, but I'm admittedly not that knowledgeable when it comes to that type of stuff.

I just guessing with the Mahle since there the supplier of the stockers, If anyone could or would do it it would be them.

True. I did see a while back where they were experimenting with getting steel inserts and keystone rings in forged pistons. It's pretty high tech and expensive stuff, but it's coming. Maybe once it makes its way into our pistons we'll have a clearly better option than modified stockers.
