So my truck starting blowing a puff of white smoke yesterday when I would goose it in idle.. It would blow a little white smoke at take off and then calm down some and blow a small amount of black smoke then.. it was also idling funny.

A couple hours later I went out and started it and it idled fine and did not blow white smoke like it did a couple hours before hand.

I've done a little research that points towards injectors.. but the previous owner said he replaced them within the last 30k mikes. I've only had the truck for about 1500 miles too..

2002 LB7 115,000miles
ZF6
Air dog
Turbo horn
Cold air intake
EFI Live w/ 5 stages

He said the injectors were 50hp injectors he put in as well..

Any help would be appreciated as this is my first diesel..

I'm located in Oklahoma if anyone knows any good diesel mechanics that could look at it.

Does he have any paperwork on where he got them from?
Do you have a scan tool to check the balance rates?

Check coolant level and check the upper radiator hose in the morning before you start it to see if it's soft or hard; it should be soft. Hard points towards head gaskets.

My 03 is on it's 3rd set with only 115k miles on it.

My bet is he slapped 50HP nozzles on used injectors. To many people believe the nozzles is what wears out, but the majority of the time it isn't the nozzles. I bet if you did a return rate test, you would find high return rates.

I was running the AcDelco filters then switch to Baldwin filters.
I put in stock bosch rebuilt injectors from Kennedy back in 2010.

I bought the pickup in 2009 with 87,000 miles and the injectors started going out shortly after I bought it. I installed bosch rebuilt injectors, new HP lines, lift pumps, and Kennedy mega filter all at the same time at 89,000 miles in 2010.

It has 115,000 miles now and I've had no issues with the injectors. I was just stating that you really never know when they're going to go out or how many miles they're going to last.

I'll be putting an LLY top end on it one of these days..

I'll check the radiator hose when I get back from Wyoming. No I don't have a scan tool that will check all of that.

I talked to him yesterday and he sent me pictures of all the stuff he put in it. He replaced all injectors and lines etc.,

He also mentioned I could try putting some diesel treatment in and see if maybe an injector could be sticking? Would that cause the white smoke to pour out and then 4-5hrs later I start it and it idled fine and didn't blow a lot f smoke?

Ran some diesel kleen through it, changed air dog filters, changed oil, cleaned air filter and it went about 2 weeks of no white smoke and today on my way home it's pouring white smoke now.. only code showing is P0380 I believe for the glow plugs.. Injectors the only possible issue?

Pickup some stanadyne performance formula (blue bottle), use one bottle of it, then use stanadyne lubricity formula (purple bottle) quarter bottle after. These are only bandaids but may help get a few more miles out of it

I'll do that. Thanks man.. Blows my mind that after 30k miles they are going bad.. hopefully soon I'll start using the truck for work and can write the injector replacement off on my taxes

Your welcome, I think i'm in the same boat on my month old truck, shortly after bringing it home had lope at idle occasionally and slight haze, tried sea foam in the fuel filter, didn't seem to help, dumped in full bottle of stanadyne for two tanks now and rates are staying in spec at idle, mine was at a +4.x but are now staying in the 3's on my two problem injectors. Trying to nurse it along until spring myself, good luck

I'm sorry but no cleaner, two stroke oil, filter change is going to fix worn lb7 injector wear causing white smoke at warm idle. If the previous installed injectors came from a poor quality vendor, failure at this mileage would come at no surprise. The only quality fix is to go with a full set of 8 from a quality vendor such as lincoln diesel specialties. The high pressure lines HAVE to be clean prior to reinstall or they will cause another premature failure. Also, you must make sure the cup to head seats are good before reinstall. All of this is assuming this is a fuel white smoke issue and not coolant.

Yea it started with a light haze and a puff of smoke at idle if I hit the pedal some.. did all the stuff I mentioned and the haze went away and have had nothing but black smoke if I turned the tune up(which I've done twice since owning the truck).. today I got on it some to pass a truck and it poured white smoke out..

Just any two stroke oil in the tank will work? Any certain amount? The guy sent me a screen shot of the injectors that were used and he said he changed all the lines and shit too.. all hear say tho..

Also have y'all heard any reviews on the SAC injectors?

Cleaners can help if the problem is due to soot buildup inside the nozzles causing fuel dribble because of the vco design. Cleaners do nothing if the problem is due to worn ball seats or eroded check balls in the solenoid/control side. Cheap injectors are sim0ly cleaned and new nozzles installed, problem is worn ball seats are normally the problem, and only a bosch certified facility can get the required pieces to fix this problem, hence the extra cost for quality pieces.

2 stroke wont help with smoke. GM makes an upper engine cleaner that people do use, but you really need to get a tech to thoroughly check the truck out with a Tech@ (or similar) before you do anything else.
