    OK - you've piqued my interest. I wouldn't think a stall converter would be a good idea in a heavy duty pickup. Just what converter would be a good replacement for the OEM unit when the trans is rebuilt?

    Pulled the pan and checked the connector on the upper most solenoid and sure enough the wire was loose again. I've resoldered the wire and will try again. Thanks for the help Mike!

    Put it all back together and test drove it. I have both forward and reverse but after a relatively hard shift out of first, the trans went to third gear and stayed there. I'm not sure where to go from here.
