L5P will barely start, then die Please Help

Alright guys, I have everything back together... New.... Oil pump Pick up tube Turbo (upgraded) Still looses oil pressure when warm. Still no boost. I will install a manual pressure gauge, but don't have high hopes there either. Next I'll pull the engine and start digging in😫 Looks like...

I have been reading up on oil pump replacement. I have to think that with all the damage on the front of the engine that yes, the oil pump is certainly suspect. It appears to be a press on gear. I'm wondering if that gear is spinning in the shaft that drives the oil pump. If so, I think I...

I have had to get it out of the shop to get some other work complete. I'll be back on this in a few weeks. I'll dig in to the oil pans(s) and see what's going on. Sounds difficult to remove the upper pan as the transmission has to come out. I'll pull the lower and check out the pick up tube. I...

I don't see that the valve could be sticking. It starts with 60 pounds and slowly falls as it gets warmed up. Could it be a cracked oil pick up tube?

I did not see anything electronic about the oil pump in this engine. Spins off of the gear on the crankshaft. The same gear for the water pump. I know these can have issue with that gear because they are not pinned. When I had this one apart, I pinned it so it would not spin. I start out at...

I definitely have zero boost. The only code that finally came on was that the engine has low boost. I changed the oil to make sure that wasn't the issue. The oil in it certainly had diesel mixed in. The new oil helped, but I'm only seeing 6-7 pounds at idle with it warm. Might just have to...

Wouldn't I be able to see some boost in pressure when I give it throttle?

Let it cool down and it fired up. Watching the oil pressure drop as it warms up is concerning. Could I have put so much fuel in the oil that the oil is now really thin? I'll change it tomorrow to make sure. I did have the oil cooler off of it but used new sealed going back together. Seems...

Ugh. This thing. Fired up. Had it idling while putting the inner fender liners back in. It quit. I can get it to start, but it won't idle unless I have the throttle open about 10%. I can see that I am not building any manifold pressure. Ambient is 15psi and manifold is 15psi. All of my intake...

Mikey, I'll look in to getting one of those. All my parts will be in today to get this thing back together.... After a two year project, I'll want to drive this thing as soon as I can! I'll put that on the list of things to do with an upgraded fuel filter set up. As for the color, I'll have...

Yep. I agree. That is some pretty good machining on GM's part. A thousandth or two out and it would bend the head to not sealing up. I grew up on air cooled German stuff. I work on a lot of European and Asian stuff. Most, if not all are interference engines and the valves are at an angle...

8 bent pushrods. No bent valves. Found GM pushrods for less than $5 each😳. Parts will be here Wednesday!

I was able to get those bolts out by hammering a T30 Torx bit in and easily turning with a 1/4" ratchet. I'll put something normal back in it. I have learned a lot on this build. I don't think I would fix another one hit this hard. I'm still in good shape financially on it, but the labor...

Also, with a lift and going through the right fender well, you save yourself removing the egr stuff on the right side of the engine. You just have to remove the egr cooler and the connecting pipe to have full access to the right side valve cover.

TheBac, you seem really pleasant. Those bolt heads are a special 5 point tamper proof. You have to remove the "egr" on the left valve cover in order to remove the valve cover. A lift makes reaching the fuel injectors and those connections a lot easier through the fender wells. You are...

Anyone have an idea for what I can use to remove these screws on the PCV/oil separator?

Well, I had it back together before I saw the previous message about pulling the valve covers🤷‍♂️. Truck just made it on the lift so I can have easier access to do the valve covers. But yes, I am certainly listening to all the suggestions and really appreciate all the input.

How likely are bent pushrods over bent valves? Anytime I've ever had piston to valve contact, it has bent valves.

It fires up easier. It will get some rpm, but not past about 2200? I can hear the turbo spool up now. It is very noisy still. I'd guess I have bent valves, but some have suggested bent pushrods. I'll make time Sunday to pull the valve covers and see what's going on. Why I thought the gear was...

Back together.... certainly have some noise in the heads. I'll pull valve covers to take a look. I got lucky and the gear had stopped in a position that was at the right spot to skip 5 teeth.... So 40°. Not sure how it would even fire up. So, the crank gear is remarked and it is welded. But...
