3:42 gears and 3rd gear in the Allison puts you in between 4:56-4:88 gears on 4th gear. The 3:42's also have a bigger pinion for more tooth contact. At the 2.6 power levels the rear ring and pinion's are a big failure point. I have heard a few 2.6 guys haveing good luck with the 3:42's lasting...
