I didnt want to hijack the other thread on here that was just started but Im curious what y'all think my truck will do in the 1/4. Assuming the clutch stays together in 5th and 6th :D. My hottest tune is for 500 hp (never been on dyno though). Mods are in sig. Would leave in 2nd gear. Never been on drag strip so I know it'd take some practice to get a good launch. The local race track opens back up in a month or so.

i would theoretically suggest you launch in 2wd then which would probably lead to a low 15 to possible low 14 but it all depends on how well you get out of the hole and if power stays to the ground.

if you could launch in 4wd, id say 13s are possible but you better practice launching good starts and row that stick! :D this is if you clutch can stay connected

Wherever I am working
get some tie rod sleeves. first time out go balls to the wall and get a baseline time that you can work from. look at all of the times and speeds on your slip.

There was a thread in this part of the forum that showed a "beginner" what to do and how to do it. the tendencies for most guys/gals that drag race go to the track and blast down the track, they have no idea how to improve their times. that's drag racing, but then again it isn't.

learn where to stage so you get best reaction times. learn the boost psi for best launch. learn to launch to improve your 60' times. with the ZF-6 learn to shift better which will lead to better times in your 1/8 and 1/4 mile times. all of the times that you see on your slip will help you understand what your truck is doing as you go down the track.

search for the thread, it helps to understand how to drag race and you can learn a great deal from it. i'll look for it and post the link here if I find it.

good luck!

btw, you wont need to shift into 6th. and I do think you will get into the 13s with sleeves:D

How do you build boost with a stick? Gotta be some fancy foot work I'd like to see. :D

Is anything allowed besides foot braking it like line lock? With a line lock kit at least you can sit there and smoke the clutch and build some boost maybe.

line lock would push through IMO, unless they make a 4 wheeled lock. foot braking is how its done.

back in the day i raced a 69 z28 4 speed car. until I got the line lock on it i foot braked to load the clutch. cut 1.5x consistently. i haven't raced a ZF-6 truck, but I am confident i could do it and that it can be done. IMO the ONLY problem I see is that it is a stock clutch and it won't put up with a bunch of hard launches and shifts.

I will definitely have to look that up on YouTube. And I don't think I would race enough to worry about a line lock. At least right now anyway, maybe one day. I am planning on bracing the front end though, just for piece of mind when off road and to give me the ability to launch in 4wd when I want to. For right now I'd just leave it in 2 wheel and hope for traction :D. I wish I had some smaller tires to throw on, I'm sure that'd help a whole lot.

Line locks work good, will hold with just the front brakes as long as truck is in 4x4, from a 3 foot launch to using a line lock, my 60's never got better but they got consistant using a line lock. Theres atleast two tune only lly trucks that ran in the mid to upper 12's. My self and darius (12secondhandshaker)

I always shifted to 6th, you will run outa rpms in 5th around the 1/8 mile! 5th gear is the same as an allisons 4th.......
