Limited slip would be a spring and clutch governed by spring pressure. With gears as well but still more torque applied with " 95 percent " than none at all.

TrueTrac's work great on ice, have you ever had one? Only takes a slight amount of resistance to make the Truetrac work, as said, even brakes can cause them to work with the tire off the ground.

The more torque applied, the more the truetrac works to resist and move the axle with the larger load. These could be good to help an axle vs. break an axle which a true locker can help accomplish.

thats true...but i mean if 95% of the torque is going to the good wheel pretty much what happens is you just break them loose and it becomes just like a lockers anyway or use the good wheel with the traction to get where you're going instead of wasting half the power on the wheel with no traction. i don't mean to argue and im not trying to be a dick just trying to get the info out there. im also not trying to take anything away from the lockers...they are absolutely great for certain applications

now the old limited slips have clutches inside that wear out and make it useless but the Detroit doesn't have them its all gear driven.
The problem is you have to have some resistance to that wheel that doesn't get any traction. If it can't put 5% to that wheel, it can't put 95% to the other wheel. A wheel with no traction can't take any torque.

the true trac looks to be a better option for pavement, and or screwing around on the pavement. It looks like a locker would be better for off road. is that correct, because that is always what I have assumed?

Yes, unless you have a tire off the ground. :D

Basically. For the street/strip, a TruTrac is your best option. If you're pulling or do a lot of wheeling, a locker or spool is your best option IMO.

Yep, no Dukes of Hazzard style driving on 2 wheels, but you don't want to be outdone by a Toyota or a Mini... :D

No matter what a limited slip is will never give the traction of a locker...while the tru trac is good i have friends with them in dodges and they get stuff all the time in the sand when towing...you can easily get them stuck if you are off camber and one tire starts to dig...and the break trick works...but with our weight its not like driving a small pickup. the arb air locker is the best of both worlds...full locked when you need it and open for the road...and you can flip a switch to have it locked at anytime....and chad at alligator can get them for the same price as the tru trac....but you will need to get the airtank kit to power the locker.

if you don't tow a regular locker would be fine...you just have to "coast" through turns so the locker will allow the tires to spin at different speeds...i ran one for years on my toyota with 35's...no issues never had issues chirping tires unless you applied throttles around the corners...but then having the locker was great for getting the backend out and fishtails. in the ice and snow the locker was fine...people always told me how it was dangerous...please...never noticed it...unless i went off the road to the snow and then the locker paid for itself.
