This is a long read, but I need your guys advice. I know a few of you have probably been in my shoes with your trucks before.

I have a 2005 LLY, mods in my signature, that just made 555hp/985tq a few weeks ago on the dyno. I am extremely happy with those numbers for where I'm at, but I also know I want more. As it is though even at those numbers my truck may be a ticking time bomb. I'd love to do 60 overs, modded pump, and maybe do twins someday. With all that said, I know the truck isn't super reliable, and did leave me stranded twice this past winter. Plus it has 205k and I know drivetrain parts will need attention.

My question is, what would you guys do? My options are:

-Get a 6.0 gasser for dd, then mod my truck and if it blows up, oh well. The gasser would also be crew cab as that's what I've always wanted for a dd. Only problem is I think I'd be bored dding the 6.0 when I'm used to the power of my truck.

-Buy another crew cab dmax to dd with a tune and intake/exhaust. Would probably still be fun to drive. Big thing here though is coming up with money for a second dmax.

-Sell my truck, buy a cheap lb7 rclb to play with. Then use the rest of the money to buy a crew cab truck to dd.

-Sell my truck, buy a newer crew cab to dd and mod. Drivetrain would be more reliable (less miles), but still trying to dd a high hp truck may be a bad idea.

-Buy an 04/05 Cummins (i love my gm) and do ssmall mods for power when I want it, but still be reliable.

Any help is appreciated, and any other ideas are more than welcome. Thanks!

yes 6.0 are good engines and with some work they will rocket but they stick to the old saying will pass everything but a gas station if u can i say swing for the dmax better milage and just a basic bolt on dmax is fun to hammer on most parts work on any dmax and they hold value better but that also makes them more expensive idk about where u live but here in az theres lots of cheap dmaxs around cc under 15k

I want to take mine to the drag strip mostly. Nothing crazy fast where I need a cage, but I'd like to get in the 11s. For a dd street truck I want something reliable, semi good fuel mileage, but when that douche mustang, or rare lambo pull up next to me a light, I can have a little fun and still stand a chance. I kinda lean toward getting a 6.0 gasser because I know they can be made moderately fast for cheap, they can be bought cheap, are reliable, and junk yards have parts if I blow it up. Bad side as stated is fuel mileage.

My dad does have a 6.0 denali and we put a chip in it. It's kinda quick, but doesn't touch the dmax.

I had an 04 gmc 2500hd with 6.0, rod went and put in lq9 6.0 HO from an escalade and had it efi live tuned, exhaust, cold air and that thing would smoke my stock lb7 all day long. It was a quick damn engine so you wouldn't be upset with that option.

if your lookin "classic" body style, what about an 8.1l gm? Same fuel mileage as a 6.0 but quite a bit more oomph when you lean on the skinny pedal. Also come with the alli. Trans

I appreciate everyone's responses, but I think I might go another route and get rid of the truck all together. Then I'll buy an 06+ ccsb, maybe an lmm and call it a day. I'm hoping I could get 17-18k for my truck? Let me know what you guys think. Thanks!

When I started making big power in my truck I added a smaller daily driver; I bought an Audi A3 tdi.

Small 5 door 2.0L common rail diesel; averages 42-45mpg.
