So i was gettin ready to change my fuel filter and i realized that i didnt buy a fuel filter wrench so i was gonna try and take off the fender liner and "muscle" it off but when i got in there I looked at my shock and this is what I saw much to my dismay.....

The weird thing is I didnt even notice the ride change or the fact that it broke, and the worst part is its saturday night and i have class starting back up next week so I need my truck. How unsafe would it be to drive it like this? At least it gives me a reason to buy new shocks though lol

i would drive with a shock like that it there. id drive with no shock over the shock in the. its going to smash togehter under compression and possible through parts into the tire or brake area. also the stock shocks have horrilbe compression and rebound vavles in them, there preformacne sucks. get some new shocks and youll be a much happier camper

Just the tbars cranked....I did not think it was possible for that to happen as a result of crankin the tbars but who knows. The shocks rode like shit before anyways. They seemed to be saggin too because once i cranked the tbars it seemed to be where it should be with the tbars in the right place.

I may try unbolting the top part of the shock so the pieces wont smash together or somethin like that.

well having the bars crankd the shock are going to top out on rebound over bumps at a high speed because of there fast rebound they have. rebound fast with lots of force can cause this to happen. i see if on snowmobiles all the time ripping eyelets off. in this case it was a shaft that broke fro the looks of it in your pics

Ya then you would need shock extenders but if you are now going to change from stock shocks get some bilstein

Steve

Everyone seems to like the bilsteins but ive heard they are a bit hyped up, I was gonna go with Rancho 9000's so I could have the adjustability for when i go to the track

Hmm well the bilsteins look nice im just hesistant because im not convinced they will be as great as everyone says. And I dont think they are the best drag racing shock.

If you are drag racing you would want to decrank your Tbars.

I am not saying the Ranchos are bad but I would say you need to find a truck with them and see if you can go for a rid in it.

Been there - done that on my 06LLY. Tbars in the stock location/no off roading or racing (at the track anyway). Both front shocks snapped in half going home one day.

You could definitely tell the difference in ride in mine though - it acted like I installed a custom hydraulic suspension (bouncing everywhere).

Good luck.

How do you like your bilsteins and how do they compare to the stockers

I liked them - much better ride. Need to take that with a caveat though b/c my stock ride was horrible from the start, so anything was an improvement. It is definitely a stiffer ride, but not harsh IMO. They will be going on my 08 as soon as we get some good weather to work in.

Has anyone tried both the zinc and the yellow bilsteins both? the zinc is supposed to be valved harder for lifted/ wide tire applications. And the yellow for stock height/ smaller tire
Wondering how much softer the yellows are.
