You sure that is not just from the light on the boroscope?

Mine sometimes does that

The center of the bowl is from the scope but I was more looking at the lip of the bowl that looks extra crispy.

I'm at least the third owner. The truck pooched a HG at like 40k from the info I found. Assuming it's had at least 2 sets of injectors. Kind of wondering if it was crisp before and I made it extra crispy

Oh, I see what you are talking about. To me the edge looms fine but carbon seems to have built up and some of it is flaking off creating the rough edges

Not sure after seeing this photo. I'm going to run a leak down test on the engine but the glow plug adapter has a foster style QD instead of a standard hose QD

I think I'm not going to worry. Looking closer, it looks like it's washed down some but with 265+K miles on the motor and less than 10% leak down with a 65*F block. It's good
