Hi all hope this is in the right spot or if it needs to be split sorry.
Not my truck just trying to fix and help.

Problem 1: I took my truck tonight to jump start my buddy's 02 after it sat for two hours. It was dead as a doornail. It took his cables and my heavy cables and a half hour to get it started. I could not load test batteries. Alternator was putting out 109/110A. With truck off one battery had a .2A pull on it and the other had a 2A pull on it. Couple hours later it after being shut off it did it again.

Problem2: It seemed to be smoking and I never really noticed it smoking before. He said it was doing it for the past couple of days and asked me if it was because of the cold. I really did not think it was... smelled heavy on fuel like an oldschool diesel. I do not think it has tossed out any codes. The smoke thing had me head scratching wondering if they were related.
Any thoughts or insight would be greatly appreciated. I am going to try to loadtest batterys tomorrow. Not too familiar with the truck but I need to learn.

Check the grounds on the bottom/front of block head to firwall and frame. I had an LBZ that was doing similar, and even had the slight smoke and crazy fuel smell. Cleaned all grounds and all was perfect.

This glow plug relay is welded. Is there a good place to buy a replacement relay at a reasonable cost? I thought the one in my psd was pricy but I cannot find one of these for under $98!

Yea 75A can yank the two optimas down in short order! Trying to locate this ford relay(F8OZ-14N089-AA) to swap in place of the bendover factory relay.

Amazon for $41, same price on Ebay. Less from online Ford dealers, too...but they might screw you on shipping.

70A is going to be ok in this application?

I saw a few other forums people have tried them with success. If it was my truck I would buy two and toss one in the glovebox for a spare. This is the second factory relay. The first one died and this one stuck on. I have not looked at a schematic but on number two I would try to build another way.

Another item your bud needs to watch now is the batteries draining eachother down. The draw between the two batteried shouldnt read more than maybe .5 amp difference and your seeing 1.8!!! Only two things should cause this since they arent isolated from eachother...
1. Bad grounding and or Pos. connections on the battery thats at .2 amp draw
2. Battery that is drawing .2 amps is pulling additional juice from the other battery in an attempt to level the voltage between the two.
If its #2 then the only two ways to fix this is either replace both batteries at the same time with new ones of identicle value to eachother, or install a battery isolator.

If it where summer I wouldnt worry about it but since we are headed into the colder part of winter I would be concerned as the effect will be multiplied in colder weather. Just let him know to keep an eye on it and dont let it sit too long between runs.

Thank you for the good info. I also should have updated better. After it sat for 10-15 it had an acceptable amp draw with glow plugs disconnected. I was checking a little early.
