Turned the key, heard the starter engage (click)...and then nothing. Now I hear nothing when I turn the key...dash dims but nothing else happens.
One thing I did notice is that the bar under the tranny gear display is gone...would that be an indication that the neutral safety switch is bad?
Or should I just go out and get a new starter...
Batteries are only about 2 years old and gave no indication of going bad.

Hmmmmm kind of spooooooooky......
Last week the grandson got a flat tire on his bike, while I was fixing it I got a cal from the wife telling me that she had a flat tire on her car:( Last weekend the grandson and I were at the kart track when the internal starter on his kart failed. I used the external starter for the rest of the day...then forgot it at the track:mad:...noe the starter on my truck took a sh.t
Is it Halloween yet!

If the bar under the gear is not showing, that could mean a bad NSBU switch. Try putting it in neutral and see if the bar shows up there. If so, crank it over, and report back. If not, I'd replace the NSBU, as it is cheaper and easier than the starter.

And though you said the batteries are fine, it might be worth putting a volt meter on them when the key is on and when cranking. They should stay above 11 volts before cranking, and above 9 (10 is better) when cranking (or trying to crank).

No change when trying to start it in neutral and no bar. I sure hope it's the NSBU switch.
I'll check the volts while I'm waiting for the tow truck in the morning...hmmm could be the alternator also...they typically go out just after the batteries...

Something else to do while waiting on the tow truck is check all the fuses (both fuse boxes). A multimeter on continuity mode ("sequel/beep" mode, look for sound wave symbol) makes this easy, as you can touch the two metal points exposed on the top of each fuse with the probes. If the meter beeps, the fuse is good. If not, pull the fuse out and check it properly. You can eliminate most of the fuses in short order that way. Nothing to lose, and it could be that simple. Though I am leaning toward the NSBU switch personally.

It's not the;
NSBU
Starter
Fuses
or
relays
Still don't have the bar under gear selector.
No voltage drop across the batteries when I turn the key to start.
The only code is Pe106 and it will not go away...

What? Did you find that code (Pe106) discription somewhere?

I went to high school in Yreka...

Pull the round plug, no change...still doesn't start and there is still no bar under the gear selector...
