So yesterday after about a 40 minute drive in the rain towing roughly 4000 pounds of trailer and 4wheelers I parked to unload and when I turned my key off she just kept idling away. The gauges, radio, AC, lights, and lift pump went off but the engine did not. The only thing that happened was the sound changed, kinda like when I was playing with my efi scan tool and backed the rail pressure down to almost zero. I cycled the key on and off a few times with no change, then just put it in high gear and stalled it out. I started it back up then turned the key off and it shut right down like normal and hasn't done it again since. Anyone else have this issue or am I on my own?? Thanks

mine did this when my glow plug controler went bad. would back feed through the trigger wire into the fuse block and keep the motor goin. only reason i found it was the controler was SMOKIN HOT when i put my hand on it feelin and checking wires.

Oooh I bet that's what it is. I already had the part of that box that controls the intake air heater go haywire and leave it on all the time. When it does it again I'll have to check that out. Thanks chevy

disconnecting the main power wire to the glow plug controller would bypass it correct? It did it to me this morning for about 5 seconds after i turned the key off, then it shut down. The controller wasn't to hot but I unhooked the heavy gauge power wire and unplugged the little connector anyway. it still does it every now and then, it turns off but takes about 5 seconds after the key is off.

yes undoing the big power wire and electical connector will eliminate the controller from being your issue. sounds like something else is causing it.

Solution:
Wound up being my old trailer brake harness. It got caught on something in the woods a couple months ago and ripped the tie straps out in the middle of the truck under the fuel door. I didn't notice till I got home and drug it down the asphalt for 30 miles. I glanced at it, didn't see any bare wires and I don't use trailer brakes since I took the controller and all out so I just tied it back up to the frame. Well someone then informed me that my reverse lights come on with my brake lights. That puzzled me for a while, then I discovered that with the key off, gear shift in reverse if I pushed the brake all my interior stuff comes on. Lights radio windows etc. Then come to find out the truck will shut down in any other gear but reverse. If I tried to shut it down with the tranny in reverse it'd just keep running. Soon as I took it out of reverse it'd shut off. So I looked into the trailer brake harness closer. I cut it all out down to the main vehicle harness and heat shrunk the end of each wire separate. Problem solved. Why and how an old unused trailer brake harness back fed the electrical system I'll never know but it sure did.

Thanks, and oil is good. Truck seems to like it fine. I've run my supply down though. I only make it every other week cause that's all the oil I can get. So I been alternating a tank of bio to a tank of Dino. Still worth it and saves me $. There for a couple months I ran 100% bio. Not a drop of Dino for at least 10 tank fulls. Last time I checked balance rates they were all +/- 1.5 with 20k miles on them, over half with a lot of bio.

It's got some gremlins that's for sure. I am just glad I didn't spend all that money for an ignition switch and a glow plug gizmo. Haha :thumb:
