Wind damage

Had 35mph sustained winds thru mid mich yesterday, with gusts reaching 60mph. We lost a couple pines, and my shop's roof was peeled off and tossed into the driveway. Had to take the day off to access the damage and do some repair and rigging to get us by.

It was bad here in Fort Wayne, IN too. Power outages, semis blown over, and trees and debris everywhere since it was trash day yesterday! Its always something it seems like!

I was afraid of losing a few pines yesterday too. Ive been trying to chop them all down that are close to my house. I hate pines and my property has like 40 of them. It was heavy winds for the entire afternoon here. My cousin had a branch hit his LBZ. It damaged the hood, roof and windshield.

I had an oak tree fall over in the last big storm (were oroville dam was going to explode :roflmao. Lucky it didn't hit anything, landing right down the middle of my yard. Wind gusts between 50-70 mph

Woo...now that's a big tree. Thank god it didn't do worse damage.
Well, I got all 20 roof panels nailed back down and am going to go help Roni on the yard cleanup. Yay...my life sucks. Lol.
I may just wait to start cutting up those trees until my son gets home Saturday.

We had similar winds the week before last. At the top of a good size hill behind my house is a tree line. The wind blowing through those trees sounded just like a freight train running full tilt. It was the first time I'd ever heard wind sound like that. I have always heard an approaching tornado sounds like a train coming and that's EXACTLY what the wind sounded like blowing through those trees. It was wild. But no damage at my place. Just a bunch of limbs blown out of a trashy sycamore at my place. But up the road an hour or so there was a lot of roof/barn damage and a lot of trees blown over. The trees aren't even leafed out down here yet. I'd imagine it would have been way worse if they had their leaves already because they'd catch a LOT more wind than just a naked limb.

Same happened here about a month ago..... Blew the neighbors tree down on the wife's car and my truck. Her car took the worst of it. It's a pepper tree and I hate the f**king thing....Makes a huge mess, so it splitting was kind of nice. Just wish it had fallen during the day when there was no cars around.

TheBac where are you located? I work in Battle Creek and live in paw paw, the 45 mile drive home on 94 westbound was pretty wild yesterday, especially in a lifted truck!

It didnt cave in, it cracked. Buuut....they closed the street by it in fear it would collapse. Surprising what 60mph gusts can do.

I was bouncing around pretty good all day. Nothing like driving a big box on rural roads with open fields everywhere.
Felt like Gilligan in a hurricane as I was walking up to homes, too.
The old guys in the audience will understand that one! :hehe:

Not good Tom, last Tuesday we has 55mph sustained winds and gusts that was edging 80mph. Lost a barn and scattered tin everywhere.

Sorry about your storm damage Tom, that was a wild ride.

We were lucky (just south of Flint), just some small limbs down. We never even lost power, which for us is a miracle.

Usually if a squirrel farts, we lose power.

Wish I would've recorded the conversation I had with my insurance company when I called them back to tell them I would be cancelling the claim b/c I repaired the damage. Lynn (my agent) was shocked, to say the least. :roflmao:

Glad you other guys in Michigan didnt get hit as hard, and am sorry for you guys who did. Straightline winds can be as bad as tornados. 15 years ago, we had some very powerful winds come thru my route (worse than this) which uprooted numerous trees, and knocked over 6 barns, two homes, and a concrete silo. It was all in a straight line 4 miles long. I thought it was a twister, but NWS said it was straightline. I still pick on one of my customers that Im glad he's still here, as he had walked out from next to that silo 30 seconds before it blew over. "Lucky Larry" is what I call him, and he doesnt refute it.

We did not have to many problems here in Howell, but branches and trees down all over. Spent Wed., Thurs., and Fri on the road getting people's standby generators up and running. I gotta love people who spend 7-10K for a standby then don't do a bit of maintenance to the damn things. Something like this happens and the shit does not work, phone starts ringing. Oh well it was nice out so the work was not too bad, just working from 7 to past midnight for 3 days straight kinda sucks. Wifes workplace in Southfield is still without power.
