Hey Mike I'm looking forward to meeting you at the SC DynoDay on Feb. 20th. I would like to put my truck on the dyno, but will it damage the trans? Or can they baby it and still find out what the HP & TQ is?

A big tune can limp a tranny on the Dyno. Pat limped Wendy 2 years ago and then had to buy me a trans for Christmas :D

yes you can find what hp and tq you are making, but because you may slip the clutches and converter you may not get full power to the wheels and could possibly limp the trans.

I say run it.

If you dyno it, start the pull no lower than 2400rpm to avoid peak torque. HP doesn't limp transmissions, torque does. It was when I tried to find peak torque on Wendy when I limped it at 2000rpm.

Racing rpm is 2500-3400, so peak torque is not used at the track.

Yea, you would probably be better watching and enjoying. I put my stock tranny on the dyno, Banks 6 gun set off a tranny slip warning. A little more out of it and it and who knows!
Probably wont be doing it again till there are some trans improvments put in.

It will also depend on how big a tune you're running...Ask Rob what kind of power he thinks it's making and decide from there...

Not saying this will happen to you, just my experience...I never limped my 6-speed with a proven 480 rwhp tune, but when Mike took it apart, a few clutches were burnt...

That being said, keep the R's up like Pat suggested and run it:D

From what I have seen you get 2-3 get out of jail free limps then you will have to pay the big buck. New tranny. I'm sure my clutches are in need of replacement on my 06 but have to wait till I go back to Cali to have Mike do a tranny. Not impressed with the ATS in the 02. My buddy gilberts truck shifts way better with the Mike L tranny.

I appreciate :thankyou: all the posts to a seemingly common problem with High Torque output to an Allison Tranny. I guess I'm on the fence until SC OH & Red Nat. day. :dontknow:
