I'm helping a friend out with his 02 LB7. He took it into the dealership due to extended starts and heavy smoke and they put in a CP3. He said it ran great for about 3 days and went back to doing the same things. When you start it it takes about 8 seconds before it hits 1500 PSI and then fires up. The wierd part is the fuel rate once it's running, it's only showing 2MM3 of fuel at idle:eek:. The pulsewidth and rail pressure corresponds to this value in the tune as well. When I ramp it up to 160, it only went up to about 62 as well, but runs SUPER rough when it does. I pulled the return line off from the engine andcranked it over for about 15 seconds though, and got maybe 2 ounces of returned fuel for the whole engine. Does this sound like a rail pressure sensor problem? He says it pours out black smoke like no tommorrow, and it RATTLES BAD as soon as you give it some RPM's like the rail pressure is ramped up(but it isn't showing excess rail pressure). I'm hoping I can borrow a return rate test set tonight to check the injectors and CP3 returns for him. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Also the truck is completely stock and no check engine light on.

Well I checked the return rates and I got little to nothing out of the CP3, nothing out of the pop off valve, maybe 3 ML out of the passenger side, but a solid 35 ML out of the drivers side. So it looks like I'm doing the drivers side injectors. I just hope this is the reason for the really low fuel rate at idle.

He had me do all 8 as he didn't want to pay me the extra labor later on to do the other side, and the fuel rate is back 8MM3 of fuel at idle now. Had 5 injectors come out wet as could be when I pulled em out, yet balance rates were well within spec on it even though it couldn't hold 62 at idle for rail pressure when 160 was commanded. And whatever idiot engineer decided it was a great idea to bury that drivers side valve cover in the corner like that should be kicked in the nards. It too ke an extra 2 hours to do the injectors in an 02 than it did to do them in my BURB. It may have a smaller engine compartment, but it is ALOT easier to work on it(took me less than 6 hours to do the injectors in it VS the 8 in the truck).
