I got mine bc I'm to damn tall to fit in an F'BOD (6'5") And I'm a hillbilly at heart. So I've never had anything but a truck. I will prob. Never own anything other than a truck. Unless it's a dedicated drag car. trucks can be eloquent, luxurious, spoil you in spaciousness that a mayback can hardly touch and yet get you out of a bind, are more useful than any other vehicle built, are as fun as a jeep. Yet they can look as pissed off as Satan and sound like they want to rip the throat out of an infant.

Plus... It's a good excuse for my penis size.

Mines not full race or puller yet but my answer is Why not? U can get 500rwhp with a lift pump and tune easy. After that the sky is the limit to what u can do as far as mods. The power these motors make are wide rpm range and they like to rev. The interiors are the best out there, and the ride is better yet. I know many that DD there trucks with everything from when they came off the showroom and beat full out stripped interior ed dodgees and fords that get trailered to the track. And I'm not much of a band wagon or follower, so it just made sense. Die hard chevy/gmc anyway. Least around here its 5-1 ratio fords/dodge to gm.

I happened to want a diesel truck....no need for it...

stumbled upon this one for a damn good price, and ran with it...

Was almost an impulse buy, start to finish was 1 day.

I was shopping for a cummins actually. Test drove a couple and they were alright but nothing special and I hated the interior. Then I came across my truck at the dealer with the front end pointing to the sky on those ramp deals they have. The road armor bumper caught my eye, loved the color, loved the hiss of the straight 4" exhaust, open the doors and your greeted with the amp steps, 3 gauge pillar and the interior is spectacular. The test drive sealed the deal with excellent shifts from the suncoast tranny(had no idea at the time of purchase) and a sound that I had never heard before. I was a total duramax noob at the time but now I love this thing even more after 2 years of owning it and I have a large pile of go fast parts waiting for me when I get home in a month.

You put up this awesome thread and didnt contibute why did you buy the d max? :)

Calling me out!!

I was really gearing this towards the guys that are really pushing the limits on the dmax/Allison but it is interesting reading some of the posts.

I actually was looking for a used dodge back in 08, wanted a 06-07 cummins because I didn't want to be the test dummy on the 6.7. Ford wasn't considered. Not many dmax's running around back home.

After driving one, I fell in love with the new body chevy. Dodge interior didn't have s*** for comfort like the Chevy seats. The 5.9 couldn't sell the dodge to me by itself! Then after finding out the lmm was basically a lbz with emissions crap I was sold. Game over!

Bought my truck new in May 08, DPF deleted, and tuned 1 week later and never looked back! Did the transgo Jr at 30,000 miles (around the time I began running JoshH tuning). After 85,000 miles trouble free I had the trans built at relentless diesel.

98,000 miles now and she purrs like a kitten and runs like a scalded ape! Only issue at all was a snap ring in the transfer case, no damage, just 2 days in the shop for a tear down and inspection and on the road again! (Yes, it was covered under warranty...)

After hitting the dyno in July, I feel guilty about how I treat my truck. I drive this thing like a fearless teenager. It has absolutely taken more abuse than I could imagine in terms of burnouts, constant WOT runs, etc. I don't even want to talk about EGT's...

I drive this truck anywhere from 50-150 miles per day. Yes, I know I should do these things to my daily driver but it just adds so must enjoyment to my trip from A to B and everywhere inbetween! I am very happy with my decision to go with a dmax. Couldn't have asked more from any truck out there!

It may crack a piston or something major tomorrow and i won't be able to blame anyone but myself. I will just have to love my truck back by giving her a new set of internals and add some HP!

Huge thanks to all of you on the forums that make owning a dmax such a pleasure!!!

Well when you go to events theres easily a 3 to 1 ratio of dodges over gms. Id rather be a little different, plus ive been a gm fan for life. I dont think any one costs more than the other when you get to competing at a national level in 2.6 or 3.0.

I just bought an 01 to be a dedicated 2.6 puller. Will be doing all of the build and fab work on my own, like said before, I dont think the expense is that much difference aside from the initial cost of the truck because even an 01 is still a rather expensive truck to hack up.

I have an 04 lb7 and bought my wife an 06 lbz, Duramaxes only in my driveway!!

That makes sense on the cost of a big build avg out. With the dmax hitting 10years of production they are now becoming affordable to buy as a projects. Old dodges are in abundance!
