In the new Diesel Power mag there is an article that says all diesel trucks 98 and newer with a gvrw of 14,000 and less will have to pass a smog inspection. Vehicles with an even last vin digit will have to get smogged this year when you renew registration. Vehicles with an odd last vin digit will have to in 2011 and it will have to every other year. I knew it was coming but didnt know how it was gonna work. Mine has an even last vin which means I will have to get it smogged when my registration is due in June. Im not worried about passing the smoke check. Im worried about passing the visual with no cat and egr blocked. The other thing is I have an S475 turbo to put on and Im going to have to remove egr cooler to make room for 5" intake routing. I dont want to put it on yet if I cant find somebody that will pass me on the visual part of the inspection first. I really dont want to have to put everything back to stock every other year to pass the visual inspection. So if anybody knows a smog tech in CA that will look the other way on the visual please PM me the info. Do not post it on here as I dont want somebody getting in trouble.
Thanks
Nate

it isn't a good idea to post "So if anybody knows a smog tech in CA that will look the other way on the visual please PM me the info"... this stuff is getting serious and i doubt forums are being over looked.

, man!!! Below is a good reason, from a local CA. diesel shop...

Dont think we should be scared???
We were hosting a Mini Cooper Tuning Party this weekend on our dyno. Guy was coming up from SoCal to live tune some cars. This was posted on one of the Mini sites. Last night I got a message from a rep at the Bureau of Automotive Repair stating that they found out about it on a website and reminding us that anything they are doing better have a CARB EO# and that anyone doing any installation better be registered with the BAR. Hinted that they might be doing some inspections.
I shut the event down.
This might be the end for dyno events if these guys are looking at forums and whatnot.

Sucks to be you guys! Here in WI, they are only emission testing 07 and up, and this only applies to 5 or so counties.
