Question: Who has made the move from an LLY/LBZ to an LMM?

I love my truck and its almost to the point where I want it(needs a 4" lift and SCIV) but I really like the interiors of the LMM trucks and I want a dually too. Im just trying to decide if its worth the 10-15K that it'll cost me to make that move. If I get an LMM the exhaust will be gone within the first week so thats not a concern. So those of you that have made the upgrade, do you regret it? Ive read all the threads on LMMs and it seems really the only complaint people have are the exhaust and cloth interiors. Which Ill be getting an LTZ and ditching the DPF so those seem to be a non-issue for me. Im just having a hard time justifying the extra money for a nicer interior and the dually part. I dont really need it but I want one really bad.

Pros and cons to both. Mileage on this truck is horrible compared to my 06 LLY, but I need the warranty for now so I haven't been able to remove exhaust and play with the tuning yet, so it may improve when I get around to it. I also haven't towed my 10k trailer yet (10k miles) so I usually see some improvement once I put it through some paces.

Clothe seats are a bitch to keep clean, but they are so much more comfortable than the 06 LLY cloth seats were.

You know what to expect in the power department.

My only other complaints:

1. Sheet metal appears thinner. I watch the hood moving as I drive down the highway. Not a big deal though.

2. Interior "road" noise is much louder; especially on a windy day. Hard to explain, but the motor noise is quieter (can't even hear the turbo with the window's up), but all other noises are much louder (tires/barriers/passing cars/wind). Wife and I have hard time talking when traveling 75-80 on the highway. Don't know anyone else complaining of this, but I can't find any reason why it's so loud and neither can dealer. One day I'll find a dealer where I can test drive a couple other trucks for comparison.

IMHO - Keep the LBZ unless $$ not an issue.

After seeing your truck and what youve done to it, I really think you should keep it. Ypur truck is perfect at the moment and instead of using that 10-15k for a newer truck with less mods I would just get yourself a nice tranny and lift and have a little extra cash. I wish I could buy your truck as its one of the best lookin trucks ive seen but I could never justify switchin to a different truck because its blacked out haha.

I purchased an LLY simply to avoid future smog requirements. Thus allowing almost unlimited mod potential. In a pinch all i have is tuning, cat and EGR. No DPF, recirc and whatever else they have.

IMO-New is nice, modded is great, paid off is better. :D Buying a new GMC/Chevy is a losing proposition they are devalued shortly after driving them off the lot, who wants to take that hit... again?

Good luck in whatever you decide but if you purchase new, know stiffer smog is headed our way.

I love my LMM... if it had a motor in it!

MY LLY was paid off and I was in the position to pay cash on my LMM to trade up, and my LLY had a bad headgasket and water pump which the dealer didnt care about, so it was a no brainer to me.

First of all I wouldnt be buying brand new, I bought my truck january of 08 with 74K on it for 26K. Id be looking at something similar in an LMM. Im handy with a wrench so I dont mind a truck with higher miles on it as long as the interior has been taken care of and I get it for the right price. Im not going to be able to get another truck until I get back from my Army training which will be in March of next year, so by then I dont think it would be unreasonable to think I could pick up a higher mileaged 07 ltz dually for around 30K. My truck has a trade in value right now of 20K bone stock. I either need to find someone to buy it as it sits with all the goodies or put it back to stock. I could realistically get a grand or so for the mods(painted stuff) since the rest would go on the next truck(exhaust, gauges, cognito stuff). So worst case scenario Id be looking at around 10K to throw down and Id be getting a lot more truck. But then I think with 10K thats a lift, transmission, gears, and a turbo or well on the way to saving for twins. I just really like the interiors of the new trucks.

Someone just needs to buy my truck for 26K as it sits and make my decision much easier.

Does anyone think asking 26K is too much for my truck? I think its pretty fair considering thats what a paid for it a little over a year ago and Ive done a ton of stuff to it.

The truck market in TX is pretty strong a buddy of mine just sold his 04.5 LLY basically just like mine but on 33s and not so much color matching with 130K for 24,500. Maybe he got lucky.

Ive got one of three option

1) Trade up to an LMM
2) Keep mine and do trans and lift
3) Continue building my 74 bronco

Just dont know what is the best idea, too much stuff not enough money. Isnt that everyones problem?

I've driven the new trucks enough to agree with Pondsy 110% The mileage flat out sucks and the noise is crazy! The stock power and smoothness of the trans are pretty nice though...

Stock power wouldnt stay long with me. I guess some of you guys that ahve driven the newer trucks are starting to steer me towards just keeping mine. Maybe once these tires are toast Ill get some new wheels and the cognito 4-6 and call it good for a while til the tranny pukes on me.

I really wouldnt mind finally getting my old Bronco the way I really want it. Whats that old saying? "Built Ford tough with Chevy stuff"

Bore the 5.3 block that I have sitting in my garage and build an iron block LS1, with jackshafted TVS2300, T-56, atlas II and 5.XX gears front and rear. Would finally give me a reason to learn how to weld too, since half the body panels need to be replaced due to rust or my driving "habits":baby:

Keep the LBZ, I had one liked it better than my LMM. Only pro for the LMM is looks and interior. Everything else was better in the LBZ, arm rests for one.....

I would keep yours

The new trucks are not that much better to start from scratch again. I kicked it around for a while and decided to keep the 04 and instead upgrade the wifes car to something more fun. As much as I like my duramax there is sometimes I wish I had a car to throw around in the twisties and do some power slides:rofl:
