Way OT from diesel talk but I trust the info from the folks here so figured I would ask.

I am planning to go to CR in Dec/Jan after the rainy season ends and was wondering if anyone has been there and where they reccomend going. This isn't a lovers retreat or anything, primarily just a surf and sun vacation.

Places to stay for a reasonable price is the biggest thing I am trying to find out. Nothing fancy. I plan to rent a vehicle and cruise around looking for surf breaks and maybe take a few lessons.

I have been, but its a few years since my last visit. The last time I was there it was in march and the weather was perfect:thumb: I did attempt to ride some waves while I was there but It was not my main focus so I cant really suggest any hot spots or anything. I will say you wont have any trouble finding places with good waves and surfing, its everywhere once you get out of the city (Sanjose)... The city is an experience in itself but not any place I would suggest spending more then a night or so;) We rented Dirt bikes while we were there and got to ride some awesome terrain, from white sand beaches to the top of volcano's and everywhere inbetween. Theres some really cool beaches and parks there, and wild life is everywhere, you will be there sitting on the beach drinking a margarita and all of the sudden you will catch a glimpse of a monkey swinging from the trees in the surrounding wood line.. Costa Rica is one of my favorite places to visit, the people are generally very nice, (although hardley anyone speaks english) And its really laid back, theres not alot of rules to follow. The prices for food and drinks are cheap if you eat at the local spots, which is about 90% of the places I visited while I was there.. Just dont expect it to be like Hawai or the keys in the sense of touristy things to do, its way better IMO, but its not for everyone.
