Whinning engine noise

A loud whining noise increases and decreases with engine rpm's but is quite at idle. I suspect it has to do with the turbocharger but am inexperienced and looking for help in determining how to proceed.

I suspect a boost leak or bad bearing from a pully. Upload a vid or explain the wine a little more.

Take the belt off and rev it up. If it goes away spin the idler pullies by hand and wiggle them. I had the same issue and one of mine was full of rust.

I also had a wine that sounded like a supercharger that would also cause the noise at different rpm ranges take the intake off and look down intake horn with a flash lite and see if you see any rubbing but hopefully its a boost leak

Thanks for the responses; I can report that the whine (almost a siren) turned out to be due to an empty power steering reservoir...filled it up, drove it with noticeable reduction in noise, and (apparently) as the line was purged of air the symptom's had gone away. I have viewed the hoses and now feel like I've a hose leak near the reservoir.

Those hose leaks are VERY common. If it's cold then after every winter haha. Same with the transmission cooler lines.
