I am going to hit the track this weekend in quest of my magic 12.xx number.
Right now I have 285's on the stock aluminum rims. I have a set of 245's on the chrome steel wheels.

Would going down to the 245's help me or hurt me. I know the 285's are wider and will help get more traction.

Would the added weight of the steel wheel hurt me?

With the 285's I have a best 60' of 1.77 that was with the rear springs clamped and running 20psi all the way around.

I dont know what to do. Any help you guys could give me would be great.

If you want the best 60's on street tires I would go with Toyo Proxes 275/60/16 I don't know anyone in the 600ish range that cuts the 60's i have. You will sacrifice some highway rpm with them but for 60's i wouldn't recommend anything else.
