Hello all. I broke down and purchased the poor mans method of lowering EGTs with a water/meth injection kit with a progressive controller.

Now time for the install, and the only real problem i have is locating the 'wire' i'm supposed to tap into for the MAP sensor voltage. In fact, i'm not even sure if MAP sensor is the right thing.... I know that the sensitivity on the progressive controller reads from 1.8v to 5v, and it's supposed to be somehow tied into the boost sensors.

My concern though, is that in viewing hte boost sensor scaling table, 1.8v = roughly 20 PSI of boost... which if i understand correctly (once one of you fine people help me find whichever wire i need in the first place) means that i won't even be able to get the system to start until 20 PSI?!? That's not desirable to me, and maybe there is a different sensor that reads atmosphere plus boost?? I'm ignorant, i'll admit, and i'm ok with you laughing at my ignorance if you can point me in this hopefully simple direction.

This is on a 2005 LLY, just in case my sig is messed up. Anyone point my wire cutters in the right direction!? I'd hate to be the guy who rigged his own truck to explode on accident....

Basically what i need i guess is to know the harness and wire (color and harness location, etc.) of where i'm supposed to tap in. I'd like to hide the tap as best i can so that a visual inspection under the hood doesn't reveal much....

Thanks all!!

Ah yes good call. I think that's how I will do my water injection system as well.

I keep forgetting about all the cool little extra's you can do with EFI!!!

forgive my ignorance.... if i use that sensor, do i relocate it? It seems the EGR sensor would be located in a place i don't need? Really what i need to find is 'where' the MAP sensor is, and which wire coming off of it is the one which is relaying the boost (via 0 to +5v) to the ECM.... The boost sensor scaling table (for the LLY) converts this voltage into PSI values....

Really it boils down to i'm just ignorant. I'm capable enough of completing the rest of the job, and once the wire i need to tap into is identified for me to hook to the progressive controller, i'll be on my way with hopefully 2-300 degree cooler EGTs while towing.... that's really what i'm trying to gain here.. just running water, no mix when towing (maybe at the track, but not towing)...

Thanks again everyone...

That's the MAP sensor then? Which wire is the one i might need?? I didn't read anything about a specific wire in the instructions, but at least i know WHERE to find the wires i need now :) Thanks!

I can run it from a toggle switch, which i might do.. but the progressive controller seems so much nicer... that way i don't have to remember to shut it off when i let off the gas, etc. etc. etc.... and have some control over it too based on boost level....

The wire i'm looking for is MAP sensor 'Signal' wire according to the kits instructions.....

I love the internet. 3 days of searching and reading pointless stuff and i finally found it without having to tear the front part of my truck apart.

Of all the places to find it, it was from ATS diesel Co-pilot installation instructions..... Apparently the Co-Pilot box needs to tap into the MAP sensor for something... but they showed me the way with this: (it tells you on 01-06 trucks with pictures)...

did you already figure out that 1.8v=20 psi of MAP, not boost? That's like 7 or 8 psi boost.

did the project work out?
