Im going to the track this next weekend and was wondering where I can find spring clamps? Does it make a big difference in your 60ft times?
Thanks
Nate

If none of the vendors here have them, look up "Tony Burkhard" over on DP. That's where I got mine.

Spring clamps you can make your own in about an hour and clamp them around all the springs as far forward on the spring pack as possible in front of the axle.

I ran my truck down the track without traction bars, but I'm sure they would have helped my 60's quite a bit. I plan to make some here shortly for sled pulling and I MAY try them on the track to see if they improve anything.

If you have a block style lift in the rear than I feel that even springs clamps isn't enough to keep your pinion angles in check. That block gives your axle that much more leverage on the springs (like a cheater bar) and axle wrap gets worse. Traction bars would work better if you have lift blocks.

Back to spring clamps - go to a chain auto store and buy a universal shackle kit and a drill bit the size of the bolts that come in the kit. Put the bolt in the hole that is by itself on one end of the shackle plate, mark where you need to drill for the other bolt, drill it out, and cut the excess off the plate. Use that as your template for the other 3 plates. When you are done drilling and cutting put a plate on top and bottom of the spring pack and use the bolts from the kit to clamp them together. Quick, easy, and available anywhere 7 days a week. If you have the time it would be a little cheaper to buy the plate steel and bolts seperate but this is a one-stop quick solution.

springs are 3" wide. the overloads at the time about about 3.125"

i ran 1/8" plate adn 1/2" bolts 4.5" long and double nutted the bolts.

i run them sololy on the front 24/7

x2 on what dustin said wiht lift blocks... goinb to need more then just clamps.

Why would blocks make it any different? The leaf pad is the same L&W as my blocks (leaf has same amount of mounting surface). I run front and back clamped 24/7. I also made mine.

because the rotational force of the tires are farther from the "stability" of the spring pack. think of the pack as the fulcrum and the farther away you get the more leverage of the forces caused by the tires.

Go to TSC(Tractor Supply) or a store of that nature, and go to the trailer parts section. You can get 3" and 3.5" U bolts for like 10 bucks a set. Then all you need is some 1/2" flat stock, and drill a couple holes.. WALAH... A set of spring clamps for less that $20.00, and you can get everything you need at TSC! Mine work great!
