What's the word back East?

Since the pulling season is winding down here, I'm already thinking 2014. Here in the "Sand Box" every D-Max truck I know of that pulls, has an auto. I'm thinking I want to get away from the auto. What's being used and working in 3.0 back East? I'm also thinking about swapping sides with the spring perches, and running them inboard to tuck DRW's in as far as possible. I looked into it pretty quick, and it looks like it should work with minor tweeks to the frame.

Here we can be solid suspension, but iirc the factory suspension still needs to be in place. About how much does the drop box reverser setup run, I've never priced it out or looked into it.

The Zero Drag Reverser, Transfer case, 3 sets of quick change gears, Solid Driveline hookup & Shielding.
The Package is $6450.00.

That's an email I got from SCS a few months ago. Will be the best setup in the long run.

That's not bad, i could make most of that selling my current trans and drivelines. what all else would be needed to make it turn key and not be scrounging parts. I'm not firmiliar with this setup, so it's a new area for me.

A clutch, bellhousing, hydraulics or linkage for clutch, mount for drop box, rear engine mount/reverser mount fab'd, drive shafts. Might as well put a big rear axle in it right away too and then gears to match. Not just a bolt in and go conversion. Probably looking 15K for all of it said and done.

Yeah, it snow balls pretty quick. But a ZF6 or NV4500 with cut gears and transfer case may be a better option. Take a look at some of the 2.6 trucks in the midwest and get some ideas. That is probably a little more what you are looking at.

Yeah no doubt. We are still about 5-6yrs behind the East when it comes to pulling. I doubt it could ever be like back East, seeing the surface we have to work with.. So kicking it down a notch (or three), the ZF platform having any major issues pulling? & what year/RPO NV should I look for?

Two of the strongest 2.6 trucks in the nation are running COTPC with ZF6, I believe. They are standard shift, anyhow. Jeremy Goyings and Evan Davis seem like the guys to beat in COTPC this year. Davis is poised to take championship and goyings has won a few pulls with them this year, beating all the Haisley trucks straight up.

If these guys can make a ZF6(if, in fact, that's the trans they are running) last, it should work for you guys.

And Jon Swartzentruber (2.6 Hulk Truck) out of the Danville Performance shop is no slouch by any means and has ran a ZF6 for as long as anyone. :thumb:

But why get away from the allison? IMO, until you are over 1000rwhp (on a tight track, probably more on a loose track), the allison can be just as competitive with the proper torque convertor.

I agree with the proper setup on a loose track an Allison will be fine.. But trying to lite a big charger and the lock/un lock and any other weird stuff it wants to do is out of my hands to some point. IMO a positive gear and a clutch to control would benifit moreso, but I could be wrong. I'm still new to the big single pulling side, twins And a stock truck was so much easier lol..

That was last year and it was nothing but a problem that's why he went drop box and reverser. Personally if your tracks are loose and your truck is working well I'd stick with the Allison. I actually think the Allison might be an advantage on the really loose tracks but that just my opinion.

Not sure about Jeremy, but Evan is running a zf6.
