As most know i got my motor pulled out of the 6.5. It has a 4l80 transmission which i will keep to put the SB 350 in:D. When motor come out i was looking at the torque converter. I have a spare ally torque converter from the 3 we have burnt up:rofl:. I looked at both converters and they both seem to be equal on the outside. They look the same seem to be the same weight. And hell even have the same red fluid coming out of them:eek:. Is there a differnce on the inside of these converters. Or can we run a 4l80 converter in a ally and vice versa. From looking at the ally that is on the garage floor the input shafts look to be the same also. Any input here.

Also i am not sure of the stall speed on the stock converter with the 6.5 i never had the chance to test it due to shitty motor blowing up. Say the stall speed was 2200 with the diesel. Now that i have a gas job will the stall speed remain the same.

Thanks guys

Maximum stall speed is directly related to engine torque. If your gas engine makes less torque, it will stall less as well.

This is 100% true. There is no such thing as a 3000 stall converter like what you would buy out of jegs. The only way you can truely buy the stall speed you want is to give them ALL the specs of the motor and a dyno sheet and have one custom made. I had one made for my car and they still only gave me a range of stall. Also with a gasser the stall speed is much less important then the flash stall while rolling.

P.S. I had a POS TCI 10" converter in my car that stalled at around 3000 but would flash to 4500...VERY inefficent, but with a high quality 9" it stalled at 3700 but would only flash to about 4200. In my oppinion and I only have experience with gassers, there is no such thing as a cheap converter that is good.

From some of the diesel to gas conversions I've done, the converters are very tight. They are lucky to stall to 1600 behind an average 350 due to the lack of low end torque. They will work, but remember many gas engines are not drilled for the 6 lug converter.

Your biggest problem will be the trans controller for the 4L80E. You need one or the trans does not work & the old stand alone diesel/4L80E one from the late 80's trucks will shift way too low of an rpm to work well with a gas motor.
