Does anyone have an opinion, experience or information they could share about PPE's short block?

Like, how much abuse/power it can take, longevity, quality of the build, etc.

I'm contemplating buying one just to get this done, I NEED to get this truck running ASAP!

We finally did it, we bought a house! Long time coming, we've been looking and trying for two years!!!
It's going to be awesome for so many reasons, but selfishly, I'm the most stoked about the garage! It's got the room I've been longing for and dreaming about, and I get a lift! 2 post 10,000lb back saver!

Unfortunately, I'm going to have to get the truck running before I get there, and that means, like now because were planning on closing in about 30 days, maybe less. I've been putting this off long enough, but glad I did because we stepped up our purchase price a bit and we needed the extra cash.

So the PPE short block sounds pretty sweet, cuz it can ship tomorrow, although I'm not so sure it's really worth what they're asking for it, it's convenient.

I'd appreciate the input to help me decide if it's a good option/idea

thanks

Link to said short block?

well, funny thing about that is from my mobile devise I can't use their menu properly and can't get to the screen.

Basically, it's got .020 over "PPE spec" MAHLE race cast pistons at 16.5/1
carrillio rods
Clevite H bearings
ARP hardware
line honed and square decked
new cam, but I think the cranks are checked, fluxed and micro polished used cranks
ATI damper, stock flexplate (but I've got a SoCal billet to put on there)
pinned crank and cam
blueprinted and balanced
new oil cooler and pump
new standard GM water pump (which I'll switch out to a Danville unit)
It's not a "special" build by any means, but a built short Block nonetheless

last I heard, they were put together by SoCal, but I don't know if that's true or not.

they want 10G for it

but it would ship immediately

Either do it yourself for 10 grand or buy one ready to go for 10 grand. ATP had some short blocks ready to go with manley rods instead of carillos. Tad bit less money but I think I would rather spend the extra for carillos.

I doubt you will have any issues...

Have you called Guy. He often has something on the shelf. Also Russ is stocking Socal engines now if I'm not mistaken.

yeah, I called Guy a few weeks ago and he didn't have anything on the shelf ready to go, he was 5wks out, he also wasn't keen on me pushing for 700whp on a "budget build" and suggested me to use an AF cam, Jon's ovals and do the machining groove around the chambers and add the steel ring for added gasket bite.

I wasn't opposed to it, but we've known that this was going to be the time we were buying a new home and I've been holding off on the build, now I'm in crunch time! his build was about 16,500 but also came with Stg 1 heads.

Russ? RPM Russ?
I didn't know he was selling built engines...

By ready to go, do you mean like a long block ready to go? PPE's is ready to have everything bolted on, lol, but I think you are feeling the same way I am, that's it's too much for wat ya get...

Damnit all I knew it would come down to this...

Same truck, I've actually dropped it a bit more in the back since the picture was taken. Now to get to work on my RCLB:D

PPE build or SoCal or a SoCal unit through a vendor, I'm sure you can't go wrong either way man. Have you contacted any site vendors about purchasing the PPE shortblock through them? Might be able to save some money that way. Steve (SSdieseltuning) is no longer selling tuning but he is very much still active in selling parts. Try seeing what he can get you the PPE vs the SoCal stuff for. He is a dealer for both!

Congrats on the house and more importantly the lift!!!! How cool! Very jealous not gonna lie.
