At your girlfriends house
Have 5 star 20" oem wheels. Well some dumbass decided to paint them silver before I bought it. Only has 33K miles on it so cant imagine they were THAT bad but who knows with GM anymore.

Question is what does GM use for a clear coat? Seems when Ive clear coated polished aluminum previous times it looked yellow real quick. Mind you this was spray can clear not automotive good stuff. If I used a good quality clear would that hold up? What kind?

I can blast/chemically remove the paint off these and repolish to get ready but just need to figure out what the OEM coatings are before I do it. Thanks!

PS - Ive used Por 15 product called Glisten PC on my 2001 aftermarket wheels and will NOT use it or anything of the sort again. Super PITA to do and not holding up as well as expected so please no mentions of those sorts.

Por15 does have a top coat in clear, don't recall anything called glisten pc? If its anything like the classic Por in clear, its not UV resistant.

I've used the clear top coat before (different can than regular Por) on an intake manifold and it did turn a slight yellow, but I figured it was from the heat.

I think they are powder coated clear. Powder coat has come a long way in the past few years. Its typically more durable and scratch resistant than regular paints.

I agree. Seems like if it was a paint type clear coat it wouldn't hold up to wheel weights at all
