So first off, why is there not a specific motor section in the forums? Hopefully I'm putting this in the right section, but I can't find a motor/ motor builds/ motor issues thread.
Well I posted a thread a while back on an issue that I thought was caused by my oil pump nut backing off. I pulled the motor to change the pump and found the nut was rather tight and took a 2ft. breaker bar plus a little umph to get it off. After dropping my oil pan I found some large chunks of metal, that look like a bearing went. So I'm now wondering if a crank bearing went and the debris plugged up the oil pick-up tube causing my non-existent/low oil pressures. I never heard any odd noises til my gauge stoped to 0psi oil pressure, and I'd think I would have heard noise of the bearing going bad. Does this make sense
Now comes the tough part of deciding how to fix the problem. To have a new bearing installed and the crank balanced is going to cost a bit. Plus while the motor is apart I don't know if it's worth trying to do lbz rods and cut pistons or not. I don't have a lot of money to throw at this truck and I don't need a built motor. I'm looking for a reliable 5-600 horse that will be a daily driver. Should I fork out the money for motor work, or try to find a good bottom end (lly or lbz)? Also would you upgrade while it's apart or would it be a waste of money?
