I'd pay off the LB7 and start upgrading! That's what I did, anyway. Though if you want to change body styles or trim levels, or are set on a six speed, then trading on a LBZ (or 06 LLY) might be the best decision.

From what I've seen so far, the LB7s are the easiest and cheapest to mod, but you don't get to play with a 6 speed trans. Its all tradeoffs. You've got my 2¢, but do what works for you.

I was facing the same decision. I decided to keep mine as it will be payed off very soon. Looking forward to not having that big truck payment every month.

Personally, i like an lly/lbz 6sp
Emissions are easy to skirt, injectors are way easy and they have more of a refined feel
That being said, i would honestly try and keep myself in a position to have the money available to keep on moddin, if you can pay off the lb7 and start putting that money into a twin turbo and built block, thats what i would do. No payments=more fun

Would you mind elaborating a bit Kevin?

The interior is nice looking but is really easy to scratch
body panels are super thin and dent easily paint is super thin
it is not fun to drive
I thought the lb7 was ugly but after looking at it for a while this is worse

the lb7 was at the point where it was gonna cost some money to keep it maintained but at least it was paid off

the only real upgrade was going to a crew cab but the extended cab is okay and if I would have bought a crew cab with the lb7 I would have almost no real benefit with the new truck.

I have kicked around the idea of selling it and buying a E36 M3

I agree about the panels being thin (havent had a problem in 40,000 miles but have seen work get beat from abuse) but I would never go back to a GMT-800 the fit and finish is so much nicer interior quality everything its different driving because they seem so much bigger from inside but having a truck payed off is worth a good bit.

I would keep it.
Take the money you would spend on a payment and invest it towards retirement, a house, etc.
You could take some of it and start play fund as well.

Yes, I'm that kind of guy:eek:

Just my $0.02

Keep the LB7! I think they are underrated for sure. Owning an LMM and now and LB7, I dont know what the fuss is about with the 6 speed. I get much better fuel mileage than my lmm with upgrades could dream about. I understand they take better abuse and all but I enjoy driving my 04. The GMT900 interior is much much better but thats about it. I would say run it(I mean what would you get for trade in on an older truck with 200k on it? May just be worth to keep for yourself)

I guess it depends on what kind of deal you are getting on the LBZ.

Me personally....Id buy the LBZ to daily drive, and build the LB7 to race.
