I have gotten used to the power of my stock truck. Now I want to tune it a bit for extra power and better mileage. Extra money is a bit slow now ( high fuel prices and work slowing) so I can't buy the EFI Live I want. I have been searching other options, used Edge Juice w/Attitudes and Quad Stealth 2's on ebay for around $200. I have a friend that would tune it for me with his EFI, probably for the cost of a license. He is more familiar with his LLY and hasn't written any LB7 tunes.
I want the most power that is still within a safe range for the stock trans. I can't upgrade that until I can sell my restored 71 K20.
I thought I would ask the pros for some suggestions.

Well if ya go the EFI route via buddie, McRats 20/20 tow tune maybe with a touch more power oughta be just what you need, fairly safe tune on trans and such, decent power and econ! If ya want "box" tunes, id try to find a PPE Exelerator used, there prob the best of the type of tuners and usually some floatin around for sale here! They will make more than enough power to kill a tranny but your in charge of how hot of a tune you run so...

Just my .02 :D

the big dif between LLY and LB7 is the VVT which isnt in the LB7
the main tables throttle bases inj quality, pulse and timing table can be copy and pasted between the two engines along wiht a few other that will give you a rough starter tune to work with.

IMO lb7 is easier to tune than a LLY ;) both are easier then a LBZ or LMM

i think all of them are easy...

just looking it at a beginners stand point... instead of 3 bassic tables lly/lb7 you have 5-6 on the lbz and lmm for bassic tuning

Maybe - get the license and ask Guy to build you a tune that does what you want. May cost less than a canned tuner with all the ease of not having to learn efi until you can buy your own to play with.

Oh ok...That table (B0720) in stock LB7 and LLY tunes looks alot different to me...I just don't copy and paste between the two different engines...

sorry let me clariffiy

the power areas that i change in the lower right i will copy and paste. same pulse width on a lb7 will make more power then on a LLY do to the LLY haveing smaller size injector holes.

i take b0720 and paste it into b0721.

Good advice...Believe or not, McRat would probably build you a tow tune as well...

What would they charge to write a tune? I would happily put one of Pat's tow tunes in my truck, or Guy's for that matter. I saw a member on another site that had a McRat clean 100 horse tune in his sig with a stock 03 trans. That tune interested me.
I plan on buying EFI from Pat once I get the funds.
