What Surefire Way to Turn Off TPMS Light and DIC Message?

I have 35's on my LMM. It came like that when I bought it. I can tell That the sensors are not there because I don't get any readings in my DIC. They're blank. But I do get the warning and the light in the dash. Is there any way to get rid of this for good?

Thanks!

What's wheels are on there? A lot are TPMS compatible and the dealer will reset the sensors to a pressure of your choosing. But I do not know how to turn it off completely. Good luck because soon I'll be in the same boat...

X2 on doing it right. It's a good setup that I wish I had.

Now with that said you can program the vehicle to not have the TPMS through GM TIS programming. However you'll need a good hookup at a dealer more than likely as dealers don't want to be liable to violate federal laws.

X3 on all above! On my first set of wheels/tires I didnt run TPMS sensors in them and delt with the light and message for about 4 months then when I sold that setup and went with my current setup I decided to go the correct way and bought 4 brand new TPMS sensors and put them in my wheels. Now I find myself using the TPMS alot more and it is really helpful!

You can get the pressure level that the light turns on reset if you don't like running 80psi in the rear. The dealer I work at will change them to any pressure you want. Some other dealers may not be as lenient though.

The trick I used in my old tundra was to take a small piece of 4" pvc, drilled 5 holes to mount the tpms sensors into then capped each end. Fill the thing up to whatever psi your sensors are set at and zip tie it up somewhere. I mounted mine up on top of the spare tire mount on my 06 tundra. Worked great.

the GM TPMS sensors wont even wake up unless they are rotating...

I say just get the sensors (less than $100 for all 4) and put them in. I love TPMS and being able to check all my pressures right from the steering wheel controls. I dont know why everyone craps on it.

I did not know this. Toyota puts a sensor in the spare as well, I guess gm does not. I did not carry my spare all the time, and the Toyota place would not reprogram the sensors to a lower pressure since the tires I was running were not "oem certified". That was my reasoning for deleting mine.

I agree they are a great idea but I feel they should be more owner adjustable/changeable.

Because they don't have steel valve stems. Unless I can get the ones from the corvette to work in my truck.

It is a cool setup until you have a rig with 35's or37's that you have to run 70 psi in to make the light go off and it rides so rough it is miserable to drive. I can't see any reason why the sensors cant be set by the owner down to a certain pressure like say 40 psi which is still safe but not have a system crammed down our throat that can't/wont be adjusted to suit the needs of the owner.

The warning threshold can be set to whatever you want with a Tech 2.

I have mine set to 50psi.

Now think about all the legal/safety issues involved here for a second.............thats why the owner/end-user isnt allowed to set the warning threshold themselves............... ;)

NHTSA/FMVSS/DOT is actually. ;)

Im sure GM would love it if it wasnt a requirement because then thats one less thing they would have to spend $$ on R&D for, manufacturing costs, etc...

Yep i know all about this lol just gotta have a friend with a TECH II cause i couldnt get the dealer to set them a little lower for a guy. ok but wouldnt it be nice if we could set them down to a safe level like 40 psi os something like that? cause 70 is way too much for a lifted rig with big tires it makes it rough. what is the factory settign for an 08 duramax? has to be close to 70.

I dont know what the factory setting is. Probably 70psi or so, because factory proper spec is 80psi.

I dont know the lower limit it can be set to, but I would imagine it would go down to 40psi. My warning threshold is set at 50psi, and I normally run my tires at 55psi or so.

40psi might be a little low for a heavy truck with soft tires IMO.

I'm new to the site but wanted to thank everyone for the input. I have been fighting with my local dealer to get my TPMS system set to lower settings with no success. Today I started calling other dealers and drove out of town to have it done. I had them all set to 55psi and was told it would be plus or minus 20% before I got a warning light. Love it!

2014 2500 Duramax 6" fabtec lift 20" wheels, 35" tires now at 55 front and 50 back.

The lower limit can be set to 25psi I'm pretty sure.

Just FYI for everyone you don't have to have a tech2 to do this. A shop with a snap on scan tool can reprogram the limits. I do it almost weekly when we put bigger tires on a truck or have one come in with 35s and 80psi!

The factory low setting in 2009 was 55ish psi. I run my tires at 59psi year around. BFG mk2 285/70/17

My truck has never been reprogrammed by the dealer, I have owned it since day one.

I know this is old, but my tpms sensors I got off eBay are all aluminum. Been working fine for a couple years now. And I got my local dealer to lower the threshold on mine as well.
