Looking to rebuild my 04 lb7 Allison this summer. Looking for a reasonably priced kit or the best route to go on doing this. Me and my buddy who is a mechanic and has his own auto shop are going to do it. He has done a couple so far. Looking to spend under 2500 bucks for everything. I am not gonna go over 550hp because I do not want to open up the motor or anything like that. So far I have a single efi live tune that's maybe 100hp over. Cold Air intake. Muffler delete. Air horn. High flow ex manifold. Going to install downpipe when we pull the tranny. I have limped the tranny on the highway plenty of times and now take it easy on the highway because of that. Also it seems to chug or surge when pulling from a low rpm.

I already have a transgo full shift kit ready to go in and have a deep pan installed.

Please lead me in the right direction.

I'd get at least a Suncoast stage 3 kit or an equivalent from a vendor on this site. I ran a PPE which was pretty much a SC 3 for a long time and it held until I upgraded to a bigger charger. With your power goal a full transgo kit isn't going to do it. You didn't mention but I'm sure you also know you'll need a converter.

You'll get a better response starting a thread in the proper section, this is a discussion about trans upgrades. Probably would try the tuning/ logging section. There isn't a specific trouble shooting section on here.

Yeah sorry guys Shouldve specified. I am looking to get clutch packs a converter and all the necessary bearings bushings seals and gaskets for a rebuild. My truck has 175k on it right now and the tranny is kinda acting weird. Hopefully soon I can rebuild it. Does mike l. Offer a kit yet? Or does he sell everything for me to rebuild this? Or which website should I visit to get everything?

Mike does not offer a kit. But do call him and let him suggest one to you. It sucks cause Mike has the best customer service and great knowledge but does not offer a kit yet. I will definitely buy his kit once it comes out. Until then its PPE or Suncoast.

So far my new kit is very promising.

Mike can you pm me about your kit? Otherwise which clutch plates would you go with? Raybestos or alto? I do want mikes valve for higher pressure. Otherwise thinking the rest is in the transgo kit. Gonna put a beefed up single disk converter in it because that is all I will need. This truck is mostly my fun truck basically with some daily driving (2-3 days a week) and I tow a few times a year no more than 15,000 lbs. Will a rebuilt tranny give me better fuel mileage? Best I've seen is 17. Also when your torque converter locks up is it supposed to lock at a certain rpm or what? Not 100% on terminology and function of these things. I work on power sports most of the time mainly snowmobiles and am mechanically inclined. Not looking to have somebody build it for me as I know me and my buddy can do this over a weekend.
