What rear locker to get?

Detroit locker or even an ARB air locker are other options. If you don't want a full locker you could also try a Detroit True Trac. It's a limited slip but it's gear driven, strong, ad better on road manners.

Yeah, it's definitely more money but the ARB compressor is compact so it's easy to mount and the harness is pre-terminated which makes install even easier. No need to mount a massive on board air setup for it. The need to be regulated at 105 psi anyway and plumbing the air locker off one is a helluva task. I guess it depends on how much your rig will be on the track to determine limited slip or locker.

It's more of a sled puller then drag strip. I go to the drag strip about 2 or 3 times a year and I pull about 20 times. I was going to go to a spool but I still drive it to every event.

Well for sled pulling I have a customer who uses an ARB front and rear in his Dodge and likes em. He also drives to the events but has a work truck he drives everyday. They're very strong and the open diff option works well on the street. The Grizzly/Detroit lockers chatter and unload around corners. It's not always noticeable and doesn't drive bad, just takes getting used to. Straight line they're bad ass but turning is where they unlock and and cackle. They can also wear tires a little faster but depends on how the truck is driven.

What locker to use for multi duty rig

Eaton Detroit trueTrac.....ftw:thumb:

I love mine, it locks instantly when I want it to, it's silent, and it's amazingly street-able. It's got a fairly simple and robust design too

Edit: it standalone as well, no electrical line to run like for an e locker, no air line to run like for the arb air locker and it does what it's supposed to when it's supposed to...IMHO.

Aam trac loc works like the tru trac. comes in dodges stock. u could special order it in a gm new.
its a little cheaper than a tru trac but what i read says the tru trac works a little better in extreme differences of traction. say one tire on ice other on asphault. i broke my g80 and switched to the aam and i love it. all gears no special fluid or clutches. And i have a manual trans and it gets a good third gear dump every now and then and i havent broken it yet. i can only imagine the tru trac to be even better.

I have a TrueTrac in my '82, and it has been a pleasure. Best locker I have driven to date.

My Mom's Dodge has the AAM locker, and it blows compared to the TrueTrac. To the point we keep suspecting hers is defective.

those are not lockers, they are limited slips. not trying to a "grammer whore" but it can throw guys off that may not know all that much about the diffs in these trucks

I've had a Grizlly in my truck for the last 60,000 miles.

It's a locker. It'll clunk & bang every now & then. It'll make a ratchet noise around corners. It'll clunk if you are constantly on and off the throttle at 30mph.

I'm used to it. It works well. Tons of traction.

TrueTrac:thumb: Had one in my half ton Silverado and loved it. Smooth, quiet and works everytime. Plus there are no clutches to wear

In a raceing situation mine has never never opened up. however it tends to open up in wet conditions.
And hard cornering under acceleration will sometimes open up. but never on a launch. and it acts like theres nothing even back there. i dont notice it. i mean if you floor it from a stop and turn its gonna come around. but hard cornering puts to much weight on one side letting the other side spin. it isnt a locker its a "posi" trac unit. There is an animation of how the eaton tru trac works on youtube.

Yep, you are right. I thought about that right as I hit post, but I was on my way out the door to work, and forgot to fix it when I arrived.

yes not sure what years, all I really know is when I ordered it from drivetrain America I ordered it by the gm part number not the dodge one.
but it comes up as a gm/dodge 11.5 helical posi, I had no idea til I ordered it that gm had a number for it, but its the same thing.
btw I think its a tracrite not a tracloc. not really sure anymore lol.
