Question: What gears would put me back stock?

Wanting to get my gear ratio back right wondering what gears to go to. I have 3:73 stock but I run 35" tires. Would like it to launch hard and still reach 100-120mph. Seems slow on the launch now w 4094 and larger tires.

I really like my 4.11 Yukon gears, I run about 1650-1700 rpm at 60-65 mph, the gear changes feel like they happen at a more appropriate time and my mpg got a lil better, egt went down slightly too. I am running a 35" tall tire as well on a 4" lift.

4.10 or 4.11 they are technically the same and get my vote, great all around gear drives like stock with a 35" tire:thumb:

Oh and I can still get up to 130 pretty easy:angel:

I wasnt sure either, I actually bought 4.56 gears first, then at the strong suggestion of members here and a shop I trust, I exchanged them for 4.11's and am very very glad I did, it's the way to go:thumb:

4.56 would be a bit much on a 35" tire, for sure. 4.10-4.11 is your best option, Should get you within a few percent of what stock was, just slightly higher.

I'm in this same boat after doing two heavy pulls in the summer heat. Trying to decide on sticking with 4.10s since I have front gears already or just going 4.56s. Hmmmm

James you still runnin 37's???

I know you rock the 5sp so if i were you I think I would stick to the 4.10/4.11 gears, I feel like I could run 37's with the 6sp and the 4.11's and be "ok" and if I had a 5sp I bet the gear would be even more capable cuz naturally you run a little more rpm...jmo

Also I think the 4.56 gears would limit your top end a lot with a 5sp

Am I the only nutjob here who runs 35" tires and 3.73 gears and likes it?

Honestly, I keep toying with going down to 3.43's or so. I can boil all 4 tires on a launch if I want. Heck, even a non-boosted 2wd launch gets interesting after about 1.5 seconds...

That makes me nutjob number 2 then. I'm happy with my launch too and my truck isn't even turned up as hard as yours. Yes deeper gears give more bottom end but what good is that when you're spinning anyway. The cruise rpm with 3.73s and 35s is just about perfect in my opinion too.

Well if you do decide you wanna go with 4.11 gears I have a set front and rear with a rear install kit that I would gladly sell you that is all brand new. Pm me if you're interested. But everyone is correct 4.11 will set you as close to stock with 35s.

I've tried 373 to 456 with 35's and 411 were the best for all around and towing. Cruise 2100 rpm at 72-73. 456 made 3rd to short when towing and you blew through the years on runs.

I promise you will like 411.

I had 4.56's in my truck for a while. My diff guy told me to do 4.10's but I didn't listen. My truck was shifting into 6th gear at the end of the track which killed my times. I ended up going back to my stock 3.73 gears. Now I hit 5th right at the end. Still sucks!

Up in Albuquerque I was spinning all 4 while launching. My wife has a video of my truck going sideways during my run against Garrett.

Either way, trying to launch hard on all terrains with enough power will spin all 4 no matter what gearing you have. I even aired down to 22psi.

Stock tires up to 33's: stock gears
35's: stock or 4.10's
37's: maybe 4.56's if you have a 6 speed Alli. If not, stick with 4.10's.
Bigger than 37's: stop drag racing!

I actually didn't mind it, the reasons for the my swap was more for towing and egt related, it did help with spool and loading the turb so boost comes on more linear, economy was a big reason, and top end was the final reason, I didn't feel like I needed to go 150mph in the truck, with the 35's she had some legs and like to run:D now it just seems better is all I can say, more user friendly in every way

Is anyone running 35s with 4.11 on the 5 speed Allison cuz I run 75-80 on a regular basis and I feel the 4.11 would be great towing and city driving but Im worried my RPMs are gonna get too high for highway runs.

I run 4.11's on 35's with a 6sp Ali, and it's perfect, for me anyways. I think 4.56 would be too much gear, especially with a 5sp

4.88 would be the only other option for you, I think the 4.10 should be pretty good, try and contact Randy's ring and pinion in Everett Washington, they know what's up.
