Deciding if I should put a filter before the lift pump. Just wondering if there is a certain size filter head I should be looking for?

I have a NAPA 4309 head and 3123 filter sitting in the garage, and just wondering if these would work?

http://www.napafilters.com/filterlookup/fuelseparators.asp

If the head is ok but the filter is not large enough, what filter do you recommend?

Thanks for any info.

Thanks. Looks like that filter uses the 4770 base. I'll have to check if my NAPA can get one in.

Make sure you research the micron rating of the filter you're gonna use...We use an older Perma-Cool setup and IIRC, filter #3358 is the one of choice...

Cat 1r749 and 1r750 would be two very good choices for good filtration at a reasonable price. I use the 1r750 because where mine is mounted the 749 would hang down further than I care for, plus we stock the 750 at work.

Just FYI wasn't there a problem with those Perma-Cool heads breaking off at the mount? IIR Nick use to sell them with his Nicktane setup but stopped when it was discovered that they break. I could be wrong tho but I recall something like that. I know mine snapped

I've never heard of any problems...We've had one on our '02 & '07 for 4 or 5 years, no issues...Lucky I guess...

Cat filters work great and are resonbly priced at around 17 bucks. I did use the 2 micron one until I went with the AirDog system.

Thanks for the help guys. Used the NAPA 4770 head/3674 filter combo. Also installed the drawstraw I bought from Eric. Just have to ask my brother to design and bend a skidplate to protect everything now.

This is how it turned out:

An inch or so....not bad at all. I wanted the filter a bit higher than the bottom of the frame.

That's a good looking install.

For you guys running any 1"-14 filter, like the Cat 1R0749 or 1R0750, take a look at the Donaldson P553203 and P553207. Both are rated at 3 microns absolute, and are drainable water separators. The 3207 is about 1" longer than the 3203.

The Cat filters are no longer true "2 micron absolute" filters. Nothing about the filters changed, the industry testing standard did. Under the new standard, they're rated at 4 microns. I'm not bashing the Cat filters in any way, but they're not water separators, which is one of the biggest hazards to our injectors.

If the filter head has 1-14 threads there are several Fleetguard filters that will fit also like an FS1000 / FF5336 just off the top of my head...

I read the thread where you were posting about the new testing standard being the reason the Cat filters no longer have the 2 micron rating because the new ISO test doesn't allow to test below 4 micron. I guess my question is, how is the Donaldson filter able to test down to 3 micron?

Donaldson, Cat, Fleetgaurd,Airdog all above mentioned filters will do a nice job. I have to say it's the fuel used that causes so many problems if you don't check it before filling. I put some in a clear jar from my tank each time and other pumps when on road too.
