So my truck is just about done. We have a GMax kit here at the shop that will be going in. Now I just need to decide on a converter and stall. I'm guessing a 2600-2800rpm stall should do? The truck will be used on the street and drag raced between 2 and 3 times a week. We have never used ATS in any of our builds yet so I was thinking about trying them out. All the Suncoast Converters seem to be holding up just fine but they aren't seeing 1000rwhp.

What do you guys think?

what do you mean that suncoast hasnt seen 1000hp? umm im willing to bet that there are more high hp trucks running a 1055 then there are running as junkstar ats shitbox. my 55 was perfect on my 10 sec runs. thats what pat used to run in casper. mike said it was the converter that put him in the 10's. jay ran a 1055. the list goes on.....

Precision

i beg to differ. when i had a ml in mine it didnt like the big power much. it would blow through it at wot. travis has had the same issues with his sledpulling. clutch wouldnt lock up right. i know there are people running them in big power trucks, we just havent had much luck with them around here.

Well like everything else, opinions vary;) I ran a Precision converter with my built motor and twins last year and it did fine. Granted it was not 1000 h.p or a ML converter but it was probably close to 900 h.p. and if my plans did not change I was going to try a ML in this years refresh.. Not trying to argue though just my experience/opinion with the precision converters..

I would worry more about what that GMAX kit is gonna do with 1000rwhp than what your converter is gonna do....

I knew everyone would have an opinion on this. And that's fine. I like hearing what people have to say. Precision has many good reviews I see as does the 55 from Suncoast.

Ben, what is your concern with the GMax kit? If I told you guys what I was running when my truck was on the road you would all take a shit lol!!

I did not have good luck with an ATS converter in my LMM with little twins. It did fine on the street. It would not lock at the track unless I launched super easy, or let out of it. I think Rob sent me about 9,000 tunes to try and fix it. Put a 1054 in and all the problems went away. YMMV. I had a 1053 in the race truck when it had an Allison and it worked just fine.

I ran a 1055 behind my twins, made a handfull of 10 sec passes, and atleast 20 11 second passes and seen some street use too.

I'm runnin a 2800 stall ATS it's seen alot of hooks to the sled without any trouble...It really does a good job but the lockup sucks on the street because it's so harsh

Had a 1053 in White Out, like Jerry said it worked fine, would spool my big twins easy and drove on the street great as well. Think I'd take Ben's advise and see if the Gmax will be able to handle that kind of HP.

I have a Gmax kit in my truck, and we havent tore it down since 09. Its been untouched since i was drag racing. Yeah my truck wasnt super fast, but it was full weight. Its also held up the last 2 years sled pulling. We will probably tear it down this winter.

I must be missing something on all the hate for the GMax. I'm not sure of any other kit that will hold the power a GMax will???? I run a 1055 and have no problems with it. Jeff

I suppose it could've been lack of professional knowledge about the Allison as the reason for these failures, but I have personally seen 2 really warped GMAX C1 & C2 packs with only a few thousand miles on local daily driver trucks at maybe 700 hp. I am guessing that they failed due to lack of oiling slots and their thinner material.
