i ended up twisting my rear driveshaft yesterday. thing looks like a pretzel. is anyone producing a stronger replacement that I can just order? or am I gonna have to get one custom made? maybe one with 1480 u joints.

the good thing is I ended up winning the pull off. the shaft twisted as 302'.

Tony at All Season Performance would be a good place to start.

Driveshafts are a mixed bag. There are aluminum and steel, and 1-pc and 2-pc, depending on your chassis and configuration. Some folk have bent them up at under 500HP, and others are running stockers at 1000hp successfully.

I had a custom driveshaft made for Casper, but it to do with running a 9" Ford rear. I just went to a shop that specializes in making custom driveshafts, and they would make me whatever I wanted.

thanks I emailed Tony about it already. I'm just waiting to see what he says. the truck is a daily driver so I need to make my mind up pretty quick on what I'm gonna do on a shaft.

Thanks iceman, glad to hear from someone that used one. I think if I make it through this year I'm going that route for next year.

what do the adm shafts run for u joints? I was looking on allseasons website and they offer an upgraded billet yoke that requires 1480 joints. I've seen a couple stock yokes break I'm wondering if they're weak or if the straps weren't as tight as they should be.

Just go to your local drive shaft shop and get a steel one made with 1480 yokes. The stock 1480s are plenty strong enough, you wont break one.

X2, haven't heard of anyone breaking one yet. Complete conversion should be under $700 including yokes.

Hmmmm

Dealer quoted me about $900 for stock 2 piece steel, the whole thing with ujoints and carrier bearing for my truck.

Price was for a one piece unit, you would have a hard time using a one piece on a CC LB. More parts equal more money.:D

The ADM shaft is around $900 IIRC, and it will be lighter and stronger then most any steel shaft. The ADM is a full 6" alluminum shaft with billet alluminum 1480 yokes.

Sorry, i dont beleive the stronger part. Ive seen them break. Switch to a steel and you will blow out axles and ring and pinions before you ever break a drive shaft.
