I finally broke down and bought the 1500 Duramax I have been wanting. Picked it up yesterday 662 miles from home with 51 miles on the odometer. The trans makes it seem pretty spunky. The engine will hit 4000 rpm no problem.

I made it home on one tank of fuel and averaged 29 MPG hand calculated.

I played around a little on the way home. I would run 10 miles at certain speeds and see what the readout was.
At 60 mpg it got 35.03 MPG
At 65 it got 33.2
at 70 it got 32.5
at 75 it got 25
and at 80 it got 24.8

They seem like they targeted 70 mph for the sweet spot.

All in all I like it so far. Time will tell.

I'm just driving it. I've done some towing and so far I'm pretty impressed. Seats took some getting used to and the engine shutting off at a stop light sucks!

I didn't realize they had that stupid start stop feature, that does suck.
I drove a rental car for a couple months a while back, it had that feature. On the hills down town Seattle I felt like I was going to end up in the grill of the car behind me.
It wouldn't start till you took your foot off the brake and even though it started immediately the delay in the transmission would allow it to roll back about 3 feet.
