So I have some friends that are currently overseas.

Maybe a place where people can send cookies, random food, etc to troops overseas.

Obviously I wouldn't want actual names of soldiers/marines/sailors posted. But you can address it to "ANY SOLDIER/MARINE/SAILOR" and then put the unit, APO address and it will be distributed to everyone.

I'm going to send off some packages this weekend with some brownies and cigars to help my brothers in arms. And it got me thinking that others may want to.

Obviously I am not trying to make you do this, but its near and dear to my heart, and i don't want anyone to feel like they have to say yes because its for deployed people. If you say no, and anyone wants an address to send anything. I know lots of em.

John

If you are sending cream cheese brownies any further east than Quatar, they will be melted mush by the time they receive them. I can't even tell you how many boxes of baked goods i had to throw away because it had liquified and stratified on the ride over. Brownies, anything with peanut butter, any type of cake mix stuff, candies, etc. Cookies are good though. boxes of their favorite crackers....you get the picture.

Nice idea John, Thanks!

We sent some snuff and slim jims and random things overseas to someone I didn't know. Kinda felt good to think maybe it made his tour there a little more enjoyable or at least know that people back here really care what they are doing for our country.:thumb:

Very much the truth! Our first and only box to Jay (son) was melted when he recieved it. When he called he asked me if (his horse) "Buckshot took a big crap in the box"! He said the oatmeal cookies looked just like a pile of horse crap!
They are Marines................they ate it anyway!

Good rule of thumb......if you don't think it would survive the day in your truck w/o melting or going bad, don't send it.

You have made the day of more than one of those brave souls over there.....for that you are a good man.

The VFW post I'm a member of put together 76 "combat care packages" last year. We stuffed boxes full of shave cream, toothpaste, crackers, Twinkies, bubble gum, movies, etc. Just about anything we could think of. It started out as "requests" from three local soldiers who were friends/family/neighbors of post members and we took the idea and expanded it. We hope to do 100 this year

If you send brownies now it might make it. It's still cool enough. Like said above marines will eat it. Ill tell you I did three combat tours and one float in just under four years and my best packages were spam, coolaid single packages, powered Gatorade, slim Jim's, magazines (even if they were already read) and just stuff like that. Things that are small and easy to share or keep in small places. This is a great idea. Let me know if you need anything. We send packages to my old units whenever we can. It really boosts morale. Just know that some units don't get mail delivered regularly it can take up to a month in some places so even just letters help to. Hygeine items help to some places rely on what they brought

Even while it's cool temps like this, the cargo hold is not that cool. Then you have to figure it's sitting on a flight line outside for who knows how long until they sort it or transfer it....it gets messy regardless. Most of the FOBs and COBs in AFGH are remote, and some patrols don't return for days/weeks.

Again, the Thought is what counts, but it is discouraging being the receiver of a wasted package, so I am just trying to warn those who haven't had the pleasure of eating Mom's 3 weeks old cookies in the turrett of a MRAP :)

I will be doing this. I just donated $100 to some guy I believe doing this for his church. But, it was going though a for profit company. So not sure how much of the money will actually go to the care packages :(

loves park, ill
nothing better then being away at a fob in the middle of nowhere and getting random letters and goodies from people that took the time to care about other people less fortunate to not be home for the holidays. I made sure on my down time to write some of those people back, youd be suprised how many little kids want you to come back and talk to there class, makes you feel good to know your looked up to for something you do. But yeah John just let me know if you need anything inparticular, and ill see what i can do up here for you.

Haha Tim. Wife mailed em to me all the time. Something about how she makes em that they never melted. And with the high temps there, they always tasted like they just came out of the oven.

We used to get dozens upon dozens of boxes from anysoldier.com. So many we were giving them to other countries troops because we didn't have enough people and stuff was going bad.

They were great barter items too. Need a emergency flight from some australians....give em 2 boxes of girl scout cookies lol.
